Is this not one of the most compelling, morbidly fascinating shows to come down the pike since “Cops”?
To watch hapless men out on blind dates with women who are about 60 million miles out of their league is truly cringe-inducing…AND INCREDIBLY ADDICTING. I know everybody disses reality-TV, but this stuff is DOPE. What a great show!
When I was dating I used to see myself as a pretty average date, nothing special…until I saw the “Blind Date” with the rich, boorish guy and his racecar driving date. Watching this guy self-destruct in front of this woman was like seeing the prepubescent ME somehow come back to life. It was freaking eerie, but holy cow compared to that buttmunch I was goddammed Casanova McHunkypants. And the little graphics that pop up at the bottom of the screen are quite witty.
Please watch this show. My TV viewing life pretty much ended with the cancellation of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” but this just might revive it.
I find the show quite witty as well, with the occasional cheesy line or two. I used to watch it every night, but then they changed the time on me. What time does it come on now? Also, I remember that they have a web-site, can anyone please give me the url?
thanks!!
also MST 3000 is the bomb too! Too bad I don’t get comedy central anymore. Where can I see this show?
You think that’s bad? I’m practically addicted to “Strip Poker”. I especially love it when the guys are stupid. “Blind Date” has its moments, but too few to get me to watch. “Strip Poker” on the other hand, always gives me half dressed young men to ogle. And it’s an equal opportunity show–I’m sure somebody likes to watch the young women peel off layers of clothing. I just wish the guys would go down to speedos–they always quit at the boxers–bummer.
I’ve been a fan of ‘Blind Date’ since the beginning, and told anyone who would listen about it [I thinks there’s even a post of mine about it somewhere in the SDMB archives]. Luckily, the show’s gotten past the initial rumours that it was using paid actors [so we can safety assume that the people are real enough, although somewhat exhibionistic].
I do agree the show is most interesting and funniest when the date’s a complete mismatch and/or disaster [often times I (mentally) slap my forehead and think ‘You idiots’], although I guess you’re suppose to root for the couple to get together in the end [whatever]. <conspiracy>I feel the producers intentionally set up some really bad mismatches just for the potential comic value.</conspiracy>.
Luckily, they didn’t screw the show up when they began the new season [I feel the removal of the silly date ‘theme titles’ is no great loss, and I think it was because they ran out of really bad puns].
I found that the show really improves when I tape it, so I can skip through the commercials and some of the dragging parts; with that, it shrinks down to about 15minues (or less) of actual entertainment. This works very well.
Also, isn’t the URL still http://blinddate.excite.com ?
Those people wear enough layers of clothing to go to Duluth in January! Doesn’t wearing four pairs of underwear (and about three sets of regular clothing) get uncomfortable under the studio lights? No wonder they are so ready to take it off.
The last time I accidentally watched this show, though, I did see some gasp actual nudity. One of the girls had gotten down to what I guess was her final set of bra and panties. Unfortunately, about an inch of her boobs was hanging out underneath her bra. Not too attractive, but there it was. I guess she had gone for a smaller bra in order to cram it underneath all her other underwear, but the effect had really backfired, in my opinion. When they were all jiggling around at the end, the camera tried to stay away from her, I guess in order to preserve a shred of dignity. No time to stop the tape so that she can tuck herself back in, though.
If I wanted to see guys in Bermuda shorts and undershirts, I’d be a regular viewer. Plenty of those.
I like it too, but here in Atlanta, they’ve moved the show to the AFTERNOON at twelve, can you believe that?? Some of that stuff was so racy, I was surprised they could get it on then. It’s still pretty funny, but I end up missing it more now that it isn’t on at twelve at night.
Yeah, buddy. There’s nothing in the world like train wreck television. Sooner or later some TV programming genius will just make a show out of real train wrecks.
