God help me, I'm a Clay Aiken fan

I started watching American Idol* to mock it. I never expected to actually like any of the contestants. At first I liked Ruben and I assumed he would win. I thought that Clay had good pipes but was too theatrical (“Broadway Clay”). As the show wore on I started to become more and more impressed by Clay’s talent and he really won me over. This kid is one of the best natural singers I’ve ever heard. I spent years playing and singing in rock bands. I’ve heard hundreds of unknown singers. I’ve heard a handful that were as good as Ruben. I never heard one that had the kind of chops that Clay has.

I hope that he gets some good songwriters for his album. I think he’s a genuine talent and when he gets a hold of the right song he can just blow it right out of the house. I’ve listened to the audio of “Bridge Over troubled water” over and over again. It’s flawless. I think he sang it better than Art Garfunkel did.

My daughter was watching Nickelodian today and Clay was on it. To my own embarrassment I was excited to see him. I was also excited to see him on Larry King tonight. I find that I’m really looking forward to hearing his album. I’m a sucker for a virtuoso and that’s what Aiken is. He also seems like such a nice kid. He works with DD kids, like I do, so I can relate him on that point.

This is embarrassing. I’m a 37 year old man who squeals like a girl when I see this latest teen idol on tv. What the hell is happening to me?
(I still like Ruben too, and I was sort of touched to see the tears in his eyes during his victory song. I hope he and Clay both sell millions of CDs)

I’m a Clay fan too. I hope he gets good career advice so he doesn’t turn into Barry Manilow.

Yeah, I’m 42 and I was much too upset the week I realized I had missed an episode of the show.

Don’t feel bad. I’m a 34 year old woman and I also squeal like a girl when I see him. It’s been a few days since the end of A.I. and I’m still pissed that he didn’t win. Everytime my coworker (who also watched AI) walked into my office I’d say "I don’t want to talk about it. I’m still pissed.

Maybe Neil Sedaka will follow through on his offer to write some songs for Clay. They’re bound to be better than the crap they gave Kelly.

!!!

WHERE DO I FIND THIS AUDIO OF BOTW???

ahem 'Scuse me. Clearly, I, too, am a fan.

On Larry King Clay said he already has a record deal with RCA. I’m betting he sells more CDs than either Ruben or Kelly, but of course, that’s assuming he gets some decent songwriting. I agree that it would be great if Paul Anka wrote the album for him.

Go to idolonline.org and look in the lower right hand corner.

I mean if Neil sedaka wrote the sonks, not Anka (I’ve always gotten those two mixed up).

I, too, am achin’ for Aiken. Surprisingly enough, my boyfriend likes him too (though he rarely admits it). We’ve downloaded a CD full of AI songs (mostly Clay and Ruben) and will be listening to them on the way up to NJ today. I can only imagine what his parents will think when two fools come driving up, singing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” at the top of their lungs.

I heard Clay voted for Jesse Helms.

I am a die hard Clay fan. I liked him from the begining. And I GET TO SEE HIM LIVE!!! Sorry, I got the tickets recently and am super excited.

WHAT?!

Forgive me, I’ve only seen the last two episodes of American Idol, and am CLEARLY behind…are you talking about the AI tour?

Yes. It’s coming to Toronto in late July and I can not wait (aprox. 58 days and counting). My friend and I are making a big colage of pictures of the man with the most amazing voice I’ve ever heard. I feel like I’m 12 years old again!

::sigh:: I can’t afford to go, neither financially nor in regards to my reputation…I’ve spent two seasons vowing never to watch the show, and if I were to tell my family I was going to see the tour…

::sigh::
