God help you America....

Pull your head out of your ass. I’m sitting here in a panic because I’m a cancer survivor and have no idea if I’ll have coverage. Will I be able to have the scans I need to be sure my cancer isn’t recurring or to get early treatment in case it does?

*Millions *of Americans are having variations of the same thoughts. Maybe YOUR white, male, middle-aged life won’t change, but I’ve lived with this fear for MONTHS, in addition to the fear of my cancer returning.

You ignorant self-centered DICK.

We thank you for your submission, but the teen dystopian fiction section of the bookstore is showing slowing sales and we will not be interested in publishing your fantasy.

Ah, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, that takes me back. He was one of ours originally, but we’ve always been shy of taking the credit.

As the saying goes, “God watches over fools, drunkards, and the United States of America.” We’re about to find out if that’s true.

I think there are 3 dark clouds hanging over us at the moment, and Trump is only one of them. The others:

Congress in Republican hands, and they seem to be more concerned with locking in their agenda while they have a compliant POTUS than they care about checks and balances;

and half the American public are dumber than a bag of hammers. The online comments about yesterday’s press conference are truly appalling – they seem to be buying into Trump’s re-definition of “fake news” as “any news he doesn’t like”. We need the press more than ever, and we need them to be both in opposition to the president and trusted. Simultaneously.

Trump: the classic triple-threat.

I thought I was clearly alluding to Rupert Murdoch.

:smack:

Yes, of course! Sorry, I must have been particularly thick yesterday.

Although in my defence, he’s a US citizen now too. I certainly don’t want to lay claim to him if at all possible.

Seconded.

I’m on long-term disability insurance, which I paid for (before anyone gets snippy with me about “handouts”). In order to maintain my benefits, the insurance company requires that I must continue to see doctors and seek treatment (never mind that I need to see them for medical reasons).

If I can’t get medical insurance I will be unable to seek treatments for my medical issues AND immediately thereafter I will be disqualified from continuing to receive my income.

My life could change almost instantly. Like Helena330, I’ve lived with this fear for months, in addition to trying to manage my disease, which has me in constant, crippling pain.

You, and everyone like you, are ignorant, self-centered dicks.

OP - we’ll take all the help we can get.

Voyager 1 was sent September 5, 1977. If you’d like to have Trump take the credit for that, go for it.

Your political culture is about to destroy your scientific and entrepreneurial culture. Your education systems used to be the best. No longer. Your scientific institutions used to be the best. No longer.

Your list is a very good one - of your past achievements. Your politics have doomed you to a slow, steady degeneration.

And destroying the institutions of science that are responsible for that kind of thing is a priority of both Trump and the Republicans. Scientists are already copying their data to other countries because they expect mass erasures.

A vote for Trump or the Republicans is a vote against science; and America just decided to vote science away. It will be swept away, and replaced with officially mandated ignorance and lies. Denial will replace ecology, creationism replace biology, racism replace anthropology, plague replace vaccination.

Wait until they try to turn medicare into a voucher program, especially now that they seem to want to eliminate the pre-existing condition clause.

I’m sure it’ll be really easy for an 81 year old to buy an affordable private insurance plan after all the consumer protections of the ACA have been removed.

All of us are fucked if the GOP gets their way on medicare.

Hey, these days we’re praying for a degeneration that is merely slow and steady. :stuck_out_tongue:

I imagine he would if he were aware of it.

Our colleges and universities are the world’s best. These are what feed our scientific and technological advancements. If we can’t churn out well educated kids from our shitty public school system, then student and H1B visas cover the deficit. Well-educated smart people want to come here. You confidently write “no longer” without it having any basis in fact.

Most of my list comes from the last 10 - 15 years. It will be just as impressive 10 -15 years from now. What I look forward to is China, Japan, India and the Europeans performing similarly.

You’re one of my favorite posters. Don’t ever change.

I think what we’ve really lost is the respect of just about every nation worthy of respect over the last 20 years or so. That’s why these accomplishments are not readily recognized. That’s why the only leaders who sound optimistic about the Trump administration are Putin, Erdogan, Duterte and Netanyahu.

Yeah, the US used to be the country that sent men to the moon and stuff. That country no longer exists, it’s gone the way of Lemuria and Mu. Now the US is the country that watches Honey Boo-boo and elects the likes of Donald Trump.

Yup and the nation that talks about sending a man to the moon and winning WWII, all while suppressing minority voting and free thought.

The US helped win WWII, yes. Eventually.

He is a demon borne of dragonkind, no nation may lay claim to such as he.

Supposedly, Trump doesn’t imbibe alcohol.

I find that hard to believe. Anyone who snorts that much cocaine knows that only a couple of shots of the good stuff will bring you back down to the ground.

Well, the Soviets defeated Nazi Germany, the Americans won WWII by staying out of it for years and then taking advantage of the fact that everyone else’s factories were in ruins to sell shit, but USA! USA!
