Listening to them sing on 60 Minutes (I’d never heard them before), I thought “I can’t tell the difference between this band and Dave Matthews Band.” Both of them could be used as an anesthetic in the OR.

I don’t have the rancor you have for them but certainly agree they are overrated, big time, as is Maroon 5. They only did one song I can stand… Harder to Breathe. The rest of it is crappola!
Marvin Gaye was on? The stuff you miss when you leave the room for a few minutes. I can imagine his performance on the show must’ve so monumental that it shook the underpinnings of philosophical, theological, scientific, and medical knowledge (in addition to being damned smoooooooooth).
I wonder if the Grammy’s will get Elvis to perform next year.

Does everyone feel this way about The Dave Matthew’s Band? Because seeing them compared to Coldplay kinda made me want to take someone out with a knife. DMB songs are not comprised of the same bar played over and over again throughout the entire song.
That said, I always did like “In My Place” off of A Cold Rush of Blood to the Head. But that’s all I’ll admit to.

I’m not hip, obviously - I’m new to Coldplay and I really like them!
I think this is another case of some of us not realising that other people’s opinions should dictate to us what we should like/dislike (however you may or may not be right that you’re not hip, I couldn’t say

I forget which movie it’s from but this post reminded me of the quote, “and you’re gay because you like Coldplay.”
I hesitate to say a band is good or bad, but Coldplay does absolutely nothing for me.
DMB doesn’t do much for me, either, but I at least understand the nature of their appeal: they’re decent middle-of-the-road pop, while giving the vague impression of alt/indie/whatever. So lots of people like them because they’re really mainstream, but get to think they’re liking this cool alt-pop band, which adds to their cachet in the minds of their fans.
And if I hear that “people in every direction” line just one more stinkin’ time, a radio somewhere is going to pay the price.
