God, I F***ing Hate Coldplay

And you and I will have an argument!
:slight_smile:

I predict a riot.

Oh, wait, different shit band who everyone pretends is good.

A coworker of mine ridiculed my wife for not knowing who Colplay were. She acted like they were the greatest band ever and she even told her “you don’t like music do you?”

I think they are derivative, bland and forgettable. Their records sound like product shaped by test audiences rather than works of art.

I saw them live in concert last night for the first time. While the experience is still fresh in my mind, I’ll make a few comments about how I feel about them.

  1. Without Chris Martin (yeah, I had to look up who the lead vocalist was, so I’m no fan) the other three band members would be entertaining us at the local pub on Wednesday nights with some cover songs and one or two hopeless originals. But Chris is talented, and there can’t be any question about that. His vocal control has really matured (compared with what I saw of his past live performances on youtube). I was right up the front in the audience, just four meters away from him so I could really see him work. He attacked the piano with genuine ferocity - literally kicking the shit out of the pedals, but at other times with real craftsmanship. A few minutes later he busted his guitar accidentally but it didn’t phase him, he just whipped a harmonica from his pocket and continued. It was nice to see him perform.

  2. Their song list is, by and large, unextraordinary. It felt repetitious at times, like I couldn’t remember whether or not they’d played this song before. There’s nothing in there that’s very satisfying on the whole. There’s moments of greatness sure, but not enough to make them a great band.

Coldplay = Poor Man’s U2

The Ultimate Insult! :smiley:

Although it should be Chris Martin = the beggar’s Bono.

Ha, nice one.
