I would interpret it to be saying something like this:

In other words, if you don’t believe in God, you’re worthless and might just as well be a victim of mindless violence as not. If you don’t believe in God, nobody would care if you were shot by a random stranger.

All I can say to “those kind of people” is GOOD LUCK HAHAHAHAHA. Random violence is random. Faith or lack of faith, what religion you do or don’t believe in, will NOT protect anyone from random uhhhhhmmmm stuff. It’s random.
