After hearing dozens of people praising GoW, I decided to purchase the first game. It’s cool and all, but for the life of me I can’t beat the hydra boss at the end of the first stage. I can knock the main head down easily, but then it asks me to rapidly push the O button. For the life of me I can’t seem to press it fast enough. I thought it was due to my disability affecting my limited hand strength, so I asked my parents to help. They can’t do it either. Granted, they’re both 50 years old, but this is ridiculous.
Any tips for passing this stage? Any cheats I could use? Would lowering the difficulty help? I’m on medium right now.
Are there more scenes like this? If so I should just pack it up and eBay it. Does the sequel have button mashing parts as well?
I can do the button sequences, but not the Track and Field/Mario Party-esque button mashing. Does the sequel have button mashing as well?
Oh well. Anyone want a slightly used GoW?
BTW: I’m running it on the PS3 if that makes a difference. If I bought a PS2 controller with a turbo feature would it work with the PS3? Do they even still make turbo buttons?
The whole button mashing thing has been around since forever. Instead of using your thumb to press the button, I have found that placing the controller onto your lap and using your forefinger (and crossing it with your middle finger if you need more support) to press the button gives you a quicker and more reliable mash. You would move the whole hand at the wrist (not just the finger.)
Bingo. It seems a bit tedious at first, but by the end of the game I didn’t even think about doing it. And yes, the second one relies on the same button-pressing methods as the first.
Thirded - repetitive strain injury in my right wrist means that I can play games, but when it comes to rapid button mash, everything cramps and I can’t use my hand for ages afterwards. So if it comes to that, the controller goes on my thigh and I just hammer away with my forefinger until whatever it is dies.
Well I finally had a friend do it for me. Button mashing has no place in a modern action platformer. It’s one of those gaming trends that died along with interactive FMV and point of no return dead ends.
What a disappointment. Everyone was telling me “omg BeST GAME EVR!!1”. Awesome scenery, fun combat, great music, and the boss battles degenerate into simon says and track and field. Lame.
I just pinch my thumb and forefinger together and rub them rapidly on and off the button. Works pretty well. The real hard thing for me is the R2-mashing on the PS3-controller, where the button has a deep press and you have to push it all the way in.
