God=Selfishness

I don’t believe there was, is or ever will be a God. I believe that there was a man called Jesus.………but he was not what they have made him out to be.……he was the same as you and me…not better and no worse. He was just put on a prediastole by the gullible people of his time maybe he even believed he was the son of God.I don’t like the idea of people putting there lives in the hands of someone or something that dose not exist…when something good happens in my life, it was because of my decisions, and my dedication………… not the hand of the ‘lord’ . People say that sometimes you need something too believe in……….BELIVE IN YOURSELF… If it was ever proven to be a ‘God’ I still would not follow the teachings of the bible…The ‘God’ that has been fabricated by the people of the past, is selfish and corrupt…The one requirement to get in to heaven is it believe in this nonsense…Popes can rape children, Mothers an beat the infant to death, but all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and there back on the waiting list to and eternity of pure bliss…but that’s only half the story!!!..Men and women can devote their entire existence saving the lives of these children tortured by the ‘love of the church’ and they are destined to spent their eternity burning in the deeps of Hell… Let me ask you one question, would u rather be in heaven with the rapists, murders and homophobics or in Hell with the real heroes of this God forsaken world………?

Nothing new here.

Except perhaps to say that If there were two vacant seats on a bus and one of them was next to a vicar who was minding his own business, the other next to someone ranting in the style of the OP, any guesses where I’d be parking my bum?

who or what is OP?

If I may be permitted a minor hijack, an ellipses is commonly recognized as three periods (…), right? Or is that a GQ?

Oh, and as for the OP, let me see if I understand what you’re saying:

A) Jesus != “Son of God”

B) God != “infinitely just and merciful”

C) …

Amen!

OP = Opening Post

And you may want to consider the possibility that you are misunderstanding the concept of forgiveness and that the existence of forgiveness does not lead to the logical conclusion that there is no God.

As good a place as any to start. How do you mean ‘selfish’?

Another rambling rant from Mr. Reality.

Look, Im as athiest and anti-death penalty as you, but you arent helping your cause with this kind of presentation.

Take a deep breath before you post. Then make an attempt to express your thoughts in a clear manner. And back off on the periods a bit.

RK

Ms. Reality is 17-years-old. I actually don’t feel I have a right to belittle her poorly formed opinions and ramblings. I probably thought I could save the world at 17 too.

What DOES concern me, however, is her utter inability to express herself in writing. I feel like starting a great debate thread or perhaps a pit thread questioning exactly HOW our school children are being taught to write. At seventeen years old, this young woman doesn’t know the difference between “right” and “write”? She can’t spell pedestal or college? Is it completly normal for a seventeen year old to be unable to grasp the concept of a complete sentence and appropriate punctuation?

Yes, an ellipsis does consist of three “dots” or periods. And it’s used to indicate a particular grammatical entity: the elimination of a portion of text in a quoted passage. It is also occasionally used in place of an em dash, to indicate a break in train of thought, similar to parentheses.

When I took a look at the OPer’s web page, I was literally shocked that someone her age (a year or so away from college in this country) wrote so incredibly poorly. Is this common or is she an exception? Please, PLEASE tell me it’s the latter, or I’m going to have to make a pit thread for sure.

P.S. Sorry for the hijack.

Thank you all in advance for pointing out MY errors! Boy, am I a dork. :slight_smile:

Hopefully, you’ll all understand my sentiment that a typo here and there is not the issue, but rather complete incoherence.

I’m guessing, from the context, that it is Aramaic for “cross.”

ok SexyWriter,
I can understand your sentiment about the OP, and the lack of a complete grasp of the topic/s. And unfortunately it does say something for the institution of schools in this [USA] country. The OP should take a moment and breath before writing. I agree. And I am sure you understand her age, probably better than I do. What I mean is when I was 17 I was livng a personal fable. No one no where could touch me and I thought I could save the world. Now I am doing my best at my career to just save my part of it, and hope people catch on. The OP will find out in time what everything is about, we all catch on some time or another…

on to the topic at hand–>
The OP says:

First of all, if you do not now, didn’t then, and never will beleive in God, why are you talking about heaven and hell? In your eyes you should be thinking, [if of course you really don’t beleive in GOD] that their would not be a heaven or hell. However, for debate, why do you think the ‘real heroes’ are in hell. And a little addendum how can something be ‘God forsaken’ if you don’t beleive in God. Mind you I am only asking these questions for debate. I do not personally beleive the real heroes are in hell, I personally don’t beleive ANY all loving God would send anyone to a hell. but IMHO this is all…

[hijack]

Not really, since, according to her website she is from Australia.[/hijack]

Let’s see if I can break the OP down into a few topics:

  1. The God of the Bible does not exist. People think He exists because they need something to believe in, other than themselves. The validity of the Gospels is questionable.

Comment: I agree, but I would point out though God doesn’t exist because people want Him to, He may exist regardless. The fact that people want God to exist will not cause Him to cease to exist. Our desires are irrelevant. However, your observation that people want Him to exist explains why people may still believe in Him even if He doesn’t exist. Or, as Voltaire said, “If God did not exist, man would find it necessary to invent Him.”

  1. If He did exist I would not want to worship Him. People have does terrible things in His name and heaven is full of people who did horrible things.

Comment: God is not responsible for the terrible things that happen in the world. He gave us free will, so all the evil done in His name is our fault. I know it feels like a cop-out answer, and it does not jibe with an all knowing all loving God, but there it is.

According to Christianity, we are all horrible people and all of us deserve hell. Also, no sin is worse than another. To Christians, a little white lie is the same as murder, rape, or anything else. Also, I think, but I don’t know the actual Christian answer to thing, the souls of people who did terrible things in life, yet make it to heaven, will be changed. They will be made good by God.

It isn’t very satisfing, from a justice standpoint, but since God made the rules it really is not our place to argue.

The writer in me is rocking himself, hugging his knees, in the fetal position off in the corner of my room.
[sub]It’s only because of that, that I can put so many prepositional phrases into one sentence.[/sub]

Methinks reality needs to reread her own website. To wit:

Reality, if you’re truly “total(ly) falling in love” and “scared of breaking his heart” then you have two options to work things out:

  1. “honey, your philosophy and mine aren’t exactly meshing. Church isn’t really for me, but I really want to know what you believe and why you believe it. I think we need to come to some sort of understanding because I want this relationship to work.”

  2. “How the hell can you believe in a pope that can rape little boys and get away with it?!?”

Now, I don’t know your boyfriend, so I’m not going to guess at which approach he’d prefer…

Ooops.

I guess it’s Ms. Reality.

Reality is female apparently.

Prediastole = Pedestal?

What is this website everybody’s finding except me?

and um enderw… I always like the smily sig… and if this is some inside joke then i’ll look stupid, but isn’t there an extra “when” in there?

:eek:

Um…yeah…inside joke. heh. heh.

crap.

Reality–Use hyphens–Leave ellipses to the JockBeat section of the Village voice–Although you will make as much nonsense as before–Others may think that there is something literary to your rant–Anyway, here are my points–Don’t base lack of belief in God based on the fallibility of man–It is written that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God–So you will not see the glory of God shine on the sin and the ones who are sinning–Also, there is more than one religion and one set of beliefs claiming to have exclusive inroads to God’s grace–Learn to explore those aspects–Whew! I am done for now.

You know, I just got out of a class that offered to teach people to write reasonably well. Reflecting on the papers I saw in there, I think you’d better start up that pit thread. I’ll be in there right behind you. :slight_smile:
