Goddam Epilepsy-Inducing Absolut Ad on "Salon"

I am in the media, so I understand the need for ads on Web sites (though not those pop-up ones you have to goddam chase around to kill, but that’s for another time). I even reluctantly admit Salon’s pay-only Premium articles were probably a necessity.

But WHAT the hell is with the goddam Absolut ad inserted smack into so many of their articles? It contains no less than 16 wildly blinking colored squares, making it impossible to read the accompanying article. Yeah, I guess I could find some way to disable it, or shift to a “print only” format.

But you know what? Fuck them!

I love Salon. Been a subscriber for a while.

As for the ads? As long as it keeps them in business I don’t care if they have to put a gigantic flashing “Bonzi Buddy” between each word.

That’s just me though.

Dude. Eve. You are so right. I saw that when I was reading a link from the board earlier today. “WTF?” says my brain, thoroughly confused by all the flashy stuff. “WTF?” says my mouth, trying to figure out what the hell that is and why the hell it’s in the middle of the article on stillbirth. “WTF?” says my boss, peering over my shoulder, who is usually fooled into thinking I’m doing something productive as long as there’s only text and no graphics on my screen (I do webpage work 10 hours a week at school).

Damn you, Salon. Damn you for getting me in trouble and giving me a headache at once. The humanity.
