Goddamit, Blizzard, hire IT people who don't suck!

Major patch today, so no surprise that there’s SOME problems with the servers coming back up. But dammit! Cascading shutdowns after less than 30 minutes of the servers being up? Three hours or more after the servers were supposed to be back online after the patch?

Can you please hire some IT people who aren’t incompetent drooling mouthbreathers? This isn’t apparently a problem with too many people logging in…I was in one of my servers and playing (briefly) before the announcement of “Realm shutdown in 5:00” message came up. Too many people logging in doesn’t cause a realm shutdown, it just makes it hard to log in.

Is there an actual purpose to the public test realms, or are they just to make us THINK you’re testing the new additions?

It’s been a while since I’ve seen them have this much trouble bringing the servers back up. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt though and guess that, probably, shit happened. Not everything is predictable, and if I’m not mistaken they’re also putting in new hardware with this new patch.

As for the purpose of the test realms, did you hear about the paladins riding kodos? Me either, until I saw a vid of it. I’m guessing that bug didn’t make it live, and i’m sure other stuff has been caught as well.

(It’s really been about a year since I’ve seen them have problems like this. They’ve been pretty good about bringing the realms back up after maintenance and patches lately)

It’s more likely the programmers who are shitting themselves and sweating bullets trying to get things up, rather than an IT problem.

I imagine two million people looking wistfully at their WoW splash screen, drooling slightly, finger poised over the “Login” button, only occasionally moving to type an IM: “Fuck! We’d better fucking get a fucking day’s credit for this! Fuck!” and, “No, they’re not up here yet either. FUCK! FUUUUUCK!”

Well, some of them may be swearing more than that.

Yeah, I realized after I submitted that it’s more likely a programming problem than an IT problem. I apologize to the IT people at Blizzard. I’m calmer now after an hour of the Amazing Race…

You know, I’ve never really understood this mindset… I’m pretty sure the WoW TOS is similar to any TOS for an ISP that I’ve seen, which includes the “We do not guarantee service, if the service is down for longer than we anticipated, then stiff bikkies” clause.

I mean, if the service is out for a few days to a week, then yeah demand your money back. But for a day? Less than a day? From $15 you’d get, what, 50 cents?

Suck it up, really.

Oh, I agree. I’m just saying that’s what people are probably flinging back and forth in IMs. The IMs I’ve been flinging have been more of the, “But…but…but… I just want to kill ONE THING before I go to sleep! Is that really asking so much?”

Forget about killing something! I just wanna see WEATHER!

And play with my new priestie toys…

Well, fuck it for the evening, anyway. I’m going to be in bed at 12 and I’m tired of watching my screen say “Authenticating…”

Overrated in my opinion. Been fuckin around on test since it was opened. The sandstorms in Tanaris is pretty cool. Talent wise, Lightwell is horrible. Should of made it a POM type ability or group flash heal/Renew.

Heh, should have clarified, I got that’s what you were saying, and that you didn’t really feel that way yourself  I’ve seen those threads on the forums on worldofwarcraft.com “OMG, I’ve not been able to log in for SIX WHOLE HOURS! I want my money back!”

Lightwell looks… well… stupid. I’m just happy I get a free respec. I think I’m going to go for a little more offense and see how that works. I was so happy being a face melter, then my guild just HAD to go start doing the Molten Core… and I had to respec Holy/Disp…

Were you behind the wheel of a car when you were thinking this? snark

:stuck_out_tongue:

(Different area sorta same problem)I spoke with a “supervisor” when the twit for tech support told me there was nothing they could do until the phone company did something. They are the same bloodly company!! The said supervisor told me they have over a milllion customers to help. Your point being?..I have two cats. I am ONE of your million. Then he told me it was the weather WTF! You operate out of LA.

Sadly, the people on the front lines of tech support often have no ability to actually help you. The problem is that you get cross-department feuds and VP’s who don’t understand what actual services they are providing.

So, Tech Support people lose access and tools and wind up waiting on all sorts of other departments, which ofte have no real interest in actually working.

In their defense, the corporate offices are in Southern California (Irvine, actually, where it’s been raining all week), however the actual servers are not… they’re kindof scattered all over creation.

Yep, I live 5 minutes from Blizzard it’s been raining on and off out here for the past two weeks or so. People here in SoCal freak out when there is a tiny bit of rain.

Their offices are amazingly small.

So the rain is why half of the servers had been disappeared from the server list ingame for the last several hours…

Oh look. The servers are down again. Also now I can’t even get the homepage of www.worldofwarcraft.com to load. I had to get into the forums by opening the updater, and clicking on the ‘known technical issues’ link through the news page.

I’m starting to come around to the “Give us our money back” side of the fence now… Scheduled downtime is one thing. Unscheduled outages every so often, I can deal with. But when it gets to the point that every other day requires a downtime of anywhere between three to twelve hours, then you’re getting a bit on the ludicrous side.

Of course, the WoW forums themselves are full of people complaining, and Blizz really aren’t responding in any way, shape or form. It’s just going to be another case of “Hold on until we feel like we’re ready to put it all back up again…”

I’m starting to think re-upping was a bad idea.

Sierra, isn’t the current server outage because they’re migrating them to new hardware? I’m all in favor of that. They’re trying to do something about the chronic lag and connectivity problems. I’m more than willing to put up with an outage if it’s for taking action to attempt to correct problems. Will it work? Dunno. But at least I can see they’re trying.
