I just caught a bit of this on NBC…a new author is writing the next in the “Godfather” series on novels…Mario Puzo must be spinning in his grave!
I enjoy reading about the Mafia, and I was a big fan on the “GODFATHER”-but what is left to say? After all, Michael is dead (he died in his garden, without sticking orange slices in his mouth (like his old man), and the only character left is Sonny’s illegitimate son. Anybody know who will be in the sequel? Will Tom hagen make a re-entry? I’d love to see old Abe Vigoda show up (maybe he WAS’NT whacked, afetr all)…will the new generation of mafiosi sit around cooking up pots of spaghetti and meatballs?
Will we have a new gang war?
My opinion: the old Mafia is long-dead…and the people who run the mob today are probably more like accountants than mafia dons.
Anybody know if the late Mario Puzo left any notes, drafts to construct the new “Godfather” from?
No no no no, please no
They should have stopped after the first 2. The 3rd one wasn’t a particularly bad movie but creating anything that lives up the first 2 is virtually impossible.
Why can’t they just leave it alone.
Tom Hagen died between parts 2 and 3. Also, Michael’s son was still alive, he could be the focus. He wasn’t a very interesting character though.
The only thing we can do now is stop the fifth one from getting made. We can accomplish this by boycotting the fourth.
Ugh this isn’t even funny
All that I’ve read on talks about the book, not the movie. I highly doubt there’ll be a Godfather IV. There won’t be one that Coppolla makes, that’s for sure.
If they do make a movie, call it something else. The Godfather is Michael.
Of course, I mean to say that this is simply another book, not another movie. A movie may depend on what the book does.
Well there is possibility for a good movie if done right. Like Godfather II it is split between two stories. One in the 1990s showing Vincints decline as the family breaks up under the new reality of FBI investigation (Like Gotti and Company) paralelled with DeNiro as Vito in the late 20s and 30s rising to become one of the 5 families (as in Puzo’s novel)
If done right it would be a better ending than Part 3.
De Niro wouldn’t play a young vito, he’s too old. Did you know that he’s older now than Brando was when he played Vito.
I’ve always wanted to see a story on a young Sonny.
But Brando was younger than the character he played in what was suppiosed to be 1946. It could work with the right make up.
Ugh. The Godfather was a crappy novel that ended up becoming a classic film – it is the singular exception that I can think of to the maxim “the film is always inferior to the book it’s based on.” I wince at the thought of a sequel.
Agreed…the original novel was complete and total Harold Robbins-style crap…probably the first time in Hollywood that literary lead was turned into cinematic gold.
BTW, my favorite part of the novel was the girl who got the vagina-tightening operation…
Would #3 have been as bad if Winona Ryder had played the role that Sofia Coppola wound up playing? That was my only real problem with the movie.
And the only reason they would make a #4 is because Coppola can’t seem to make a blockbuster that doesn’t have the word “Godfather” in the title.
