GoFundMe for Former SDMB mod @Idle_Thoughts; he needs some help after some personal challenges

I just chipped in as well.

I’m glad to hear from you, @Idle_Thoughts. Sorry to hear of your troubles and of the loss of your mother. I hope things get better for you soon and you get your SSI income straightened out.

As you can see, you touched a lot of people’s lives over the years in a positive way. I’m glad we were able to return the favor. I hope you consider sticking around…but of course do what’s best for you.

Me too. You’ve been through a lot. (More than people who don’t follow you of Facebook know.) I think we, as a community, may be able to help you through your difficulties.

Yes, you have been missed.

That is just nuts. This may sound nuts also, but look over everything carefully and make sure there isn’t one digit off somewhere, like in your ssn, or your address, or something like that. All these assurances that something should have happened and it hasn’t, that would make anybody nuts. Take care. Keep in touch.

You can thank all those people here, just as you did.

You may not need it, but until your situation is straightened out it’s good to have it.

Later on, when things are better, you are free to donate what you no longer “need” to someone else who needs assistance, or a worthy cause of some sort. But until then, it’s a buffer for you.

Good points, @Broomstick .

Like @Broomstick said, you can pay it forward, start a Vanguard fund, a bank account, or take a mini vacation. At the very least I hope your stress level about finances is lessened for a while!

I’ve made a small donation even though I’m hardly a major contributor to this board. Nonetheless, I remember Idle_Thoughts with respect, I like the community (including the mods) here, I’m a fellow Arizonan and I want to help.

For what it’s worth, Chris, I’m pulling for you. And thank you, Andy, for setting this up.

I put in a truly tiny amount. I remember @Idle_Thoughts too.
I hope everything turns out well. Keep off the opiates now you are clean.

Hi @Idle_Thoughts :wave:t3: Just checking in to see how things are going with you. Any progress on your social security situation? So very sorry about your mom…such a huge loss and change for you. Absorbing that will likely be the work of many months/years. Your Doper pals are pulling for you and wishing you well.

@Idle_Thoughts, hard times and poverty have obviously taught you to define “enough” as “enough to get by with for now.” I feel better knowing you have some extra socked away.

I hope life treats you more gently from here on out.

So about four days ago, I’m sitting here and check my bank account online…and lo and behold, it suddenly had a lot more money in it. I mean way more so, so I looked at the activity and—without me even having to go down there again (thankfully, because it would have been for the 5th time)----the two payments missed by the social security administration came in, finally.

No idea what was the hold up, why it was that late, and I certainly hope the days I get them (from here on) doesn’t get changed to that day…but I’m extremely grateful it finally came through.

I only hope this means it will continue on, as it has the last 25 years, from here without any more difficulty.

The huge help the donations this fundraiser brought about, however, was priceless. I cannot thank everyone enough. Hopefully it’ll be all fixed from here on…
…but with this thing… I had no idea it would ever get as high as it did. I only needed, originally, say 500 dollars, but I wind up getting almost 9 times that.

Still makes me feel eternally grateful. Thank you.

I’m so glad things are looking up for you. Damn, you got hit pretty hard there.

What a wonderful surprise!

I was grateful for the opportunity to help, knowing it would have direct impact on someone I (kinda sorta) knew.

It’s a huge relief to hear that the missing SSI payments have come through. I’m so glad everything has worked out.

I knew they’d figure it out eventually, but damn, they can be slow about it. Wifey, RN has DSHS patients. There was a patient she hadn’t been paid for, for a whole year because someone at DSHS used the wrong number.

I’m glad things are looking up for you.

Onwards and upwards, @Idle_Thoughts !
