Going to a Philadelphia Eagles game Dec 1st

Hello,

I am (finally) going to see my Eagles play in the hopefully now friendly confines of the Linc. A buddy and myself are coming in Saturday night, seeing the game Sunday, and flying out again Monday, so its a quick trip. I am looking for some helpful hints on a few things;

  1. Saturday night - things to do, we are staying at Holiday Inn near the Stadium, so things in that area would be nice - cheese steaks, good sports bar with a selection of craft beers, etc. That sort of stuff

  2. Tailgating - anything I need to know about it in Philly? I have only ever been to 1 NFL game, and it was in Detroit. I went with bunch of guys so we had our own beer, and BBQ…that is a luxury I won’t have this time, so how will that work? Do people sell stuff? Share with the foolish Canadians who are prepared to sit outside in December? Beer, same questions. After the game - any good after game places for a couple of married men to go to?

  3. Hi Opal!

Thanks for the help, and suggestions to a long time lurker, rare poster!

bring some batteries to throw at the other team (or your team if they’re playing bad)

Hey, it’s a December game, Santa will probably be there.

I’ll pay you $10 to wear a Cardinals jersey.

I am Canadian, so that means I am polite and nice, I like the Eagles, I am not from Philly, so even if they are losing I won’t be booing, or throwing things.

Any helpful suggestions?

Sorry, I’m clueless. I’ve only been to a Jets game but there was no tailgating involved. But I’ll give you a bump to see if you can actually get some worthwhile suggestions. ;p

Not being able to have your own beer??? I know what all these individual words mean, but don’t understand them arranged in this fashion.

Surely you could grab a 12 pack (or a couple of them) on the way to stadium and offer a beer or two to someone in the parking lot for a little room in their cooler to store your beer for a bit while tailgating … or something. That way, you wouldn’t get gouged on prices from buying beers from an individual who probably wouldn’t want to sell any, and could potentially make a friend or two.

As far as things to do in Philly before or afterwards… I have no idea.

Sorry I wasn’t much help.

Buying beer is our backup plan, carrying it around just didn’t sound like fun, however the trade for cooler space does sound good.

Anybody know what the PA liquor rules are? Can you get beer any day any time?

I found a few links for you, but it was pure Googling - I am not that familiar with PA.

You might also take a look at this Eagles message board, where they have a forum Lincoln Financial Field: Getting in & Hanging out. Perhaps you could also ask your question there, though some of the replies in general seem a bit rude.

Bzzzzzrrrrttt! Does. Not. Compute!

Thank you for the replies, at least some of you. The rest; snowballs are coming your way!

As you likely read, PA liquor laws are draconian, and you need to purchase beer at a “beer distributor” (not unlike a Beer Store in Canada). These are open on Saturdays. Bars only sell up to 12 beers for take-out.

Tailgating is common and pervasive…

Best beer/burger combo in town is Eulogy Tavern at 2nd and Chestnut… Cheesesteaks/Pork Sandwich at Tony Lukes (although there are people willing to die on their “Best Cheesesteak” Hill).

No worries about crazy fans, unless you were planning on wearing the opposing team’s colors…

Have fun!
