Going to get a Playstation 4, what game should I get?

My Xbox 360 just got RROD again! To be fair, it’s been twice in 4 years. So, I may be the recipient of a new gaming system. From what I’ve read so far, I’m leaning heavily towards the PS4, primarily because of PSN. Ideally, I would like a PS4 exclusive game. My favorite games right now are Gears of War 3 and Mass Effect 3. I also like RPGs and fantasy games. I’m not a big fan of FPS, but I do like Doom. And, just out of curiosity, what would I be missing by not choosing Xbox One?

Honestly, I’m not aware of any huge ‘killer apps’ for the PS4 (or the Xbox One, for that matter.)

Biggest thing you’re missing right now on XB1 is Titanfall.

The best PS4 exclusive right now is InFAMOUS: Second Son.

That’s right. I always forget about InFamous because I never cared about it, but by many accounts, it is quite good.

Titanfall only half counts, since you can get it on PC.

The Last of Us Remastered comes out at the end of this month.

It includes all DLC from the ps3 game, increased resolution, frame rate, and improved textures. Also another vote for Infamous Second Son.

I just beat InFamous Second Son on PS4. I definitely enjoyed the story, and they move the game along in a fashion that keeps it fresh throughout. Just when you start getting bored doing one thing, they give you more to do and in a different way.

That said, if you haven’t played The Last Of Us, you need to. It’s hands down the best game I’ve played in the past…5? 10 years?

Meh, I’d say save yourself the money and just watch the Last Of Us Replay on YouTube.

It’s mediocre gameplay tied up with some great story telling.

I thought the gameplay was far from mediocre.

Granted some of the baddies still do a death charge at you, but for the most part you have to use a good amount of strategy for get through the more heavily guarded areas.

It is probably gorgeous on PS4. I’m also hearing they are redoing the Mass Effect trilogy for the PS4 and I think having ME3 with new graphics would be beyond beautiful.

There are no solid plans to remaster the trilogy for the new consoles. I doubt we will see it, considering their work on ME4. It’s definitely not being worked on now, so we’re talking either a cash grab, where it’s the old PC version, or something that doesn’t come out until after ME4.

As for TLOU, the gameplay is repetitive and the game world is so corridor like that it’s just not very interesting.

I stopped playing about half way and just watched the replay instead, which turned out to be much more enjoyable an experience. YMMV of course.

Aaryn Flynn disagrees:

General Manager for BioWare’s Edmonton & Montreal Studios Aaryn Flynn has confirmed that the company is currently working on a remake of the original trilogy for the next-gen consoles.

I’m another one who liked the story in The Last of Us, but didn’t like playing it. I quit about halfway through and just watched the rest on YouTube.

That’s brand new information!

Assuming they do more than just increase texture resolution, I might pick up any PC re-release they do.

Would love to see better lighting, improved animations, better textures, changes to level design, GUI and inventory management, and maybe pacing changes, specially in the first one.

I’m thinking it probably won’t be that though - just a “here’s the PC version, enjoy!, that’ll be $60” thing with no re-release on PC either. :frowning:

I would doubt it since I think it’s a remastering and not so much a reinventing.

Although I would definitely take some animation changes because every time I play I always get the audio of an action (explosion, punch, gunshot) after the visual and it’s REALLY annoying

EDIT: I see you agree with me on the edits. Although I wouldn’t hate for the trilogy to have all of the DLCs attached, especially the ones in 3

The Last of Us Remastered is definitely high on my list. I don’t have a PS3 so I definitely want to see what all of my friends have been lauding after. Doing some research, I think I really like The Order: 1886. I might be so inclined to buy a remaster Mass Effect 3, if the graphics are anything like The Order (and I usually don’t put that much stock into graphics). If they do remaster Mass Effect, they definitely have to work on the hit-boxes and smooth out the combat.

They won’t be anything like the order. I doubt they’ll do more than maybe port ME1 and 2 into the version of the engine ME3 was using.

It seems like you might be the sort of person who’d enjoy Destiny. An RPG slash FPS slash free roaming slash co-op slash competitive multiplayer game.

It’s not a PS4 exclusive, but Bungie has said that the PS4 is the game’s “primary development platform,” whatever that means.

I know the OP said he doesn’t like FPS games, but hey, he opened it back up with Doom. I’m a COD fan, but have always wanted to try something a little less COD-ish. Destiny seems like just the thing. Those who played the Alpha are saying it’s pretty good (although I’m reserving judgment in light of the fact that most who played the Alpha were flown out to California, wined, dined, and given hundreds of dollars worth of swag). The Beta starts in ten days, and full release is in September. At the very least, it’s notable for being the most expensive video game in history.

It means $$$$$$.

Well yeah. I’m saying it’s unclear what it means to the end user. Activision has always had an exclusivity deal with Microsoft wherein all the DLC for the COD series gets released to the Microsoft platform four weeks before it gets released to the Sony platform. Doesn’t seem like a big deal, but considering the attention span of humanity in general and teenage male gamers in particular, this has been a serious hitch for the PS3 and PS4 for years.

I would assume that “primary development platform” means that there is no such deal with Microsoft for this game, or even possibly that DLC will come out for the PS4 before the other platforms.

As for the OP, almost half of my PS4’s playing time gets devoted to Don’t Starve. Which is a console exclusive for the PS4, but of course is primarily a PC game.

I hear Evolve is looking good, that could be something to look into

I recommend Child of Light, Fez, and Resogun. Fez was on the 360, though.
