Going to NYC in May - need accommodations advice

So today I got train tickets to go to New York City from May 16-20! I have a problem though - I’ve completely lost contact with the friend I was supposed to be staying with. So now I need to find alternative accommodations.

I’m looking for something that’s not expensive, and that is not likely to have bedbugs (so I guess hostels are out, then.) Also, I may be arriving kind of late on the night of the 16th (don’t know exactly when the train will arrive), so my check-in time might be kind of late. NearPenn Station would be good.

A couple of friends on Facebook suggested the YMCA to me. It’s not expensive apparently. Would this be okay and bedbug-free, and would I get my own private room?

Also, a potentially major problem that I could run into is that I don’t have a credit card (yet,) although I may have one soon, I might be able to use my Visa Debit Cad, or I could possibly borow someone else’s credit card.

TL/DR I’m looking for inexpensive accommodations in NYC for the nights of May 16, 17, 18, 19. Needs to be bedbug-free. (May need to try to book without credit card, but may be able to work around this.)

Just so you understand, “not expensive” is relative in NYC. The rooms at the Westside YMCA start at $109/nt. That is for a private room, but you have to share a bathroom.

I will note that the YHA Hostel is extremely reputable. More so than some fairly well known hotels (Hotel Pennsylvania, I’m looking at you)

Realistically, what is your budget? And by “budget” I mean “the maximum you could possibly pay.”

Thanks.

I may have some arrangements with a friend after all.

Did you look at Airbnb:

or Craigslist?

I personally would probably get something in the suburbs and commute in.

Yeah, thinking of something like that. Thanks
