Gone in 90 Seconds: America's Quickest-Selling Cars

That’s the title of a recent Business Week article that lists 7 car models that, based on the sales figures for August, sold at least one car every 90 seconds or less. The idea of doing this came during an analyst call with Ford and a Bloomberg writer decided to crunch the numbers for other models. Honda took 3 of the spots with trucks from Ford, Chevy and Chrysler taking 3 more. Toyota Camry filled in the last slot.

It’s not too surprising that auto sales should have picked up though. The average age of cars on the road, over 11 years, is the oldest since they started keeping stats on this in 1995.

I don’t really see how the “sold every X seconds” schtick really adds anything to the gross sales numbers, which is basically all these are. It’s especially confusing because there’s also the “average time on lot” statistic that to me at least seems much more pertinent to saying how quick a car sells.

This got some attention because for a while it was the most popular business story online.
