I’m looking for a remote control solution that I can use inexpensively for corporate work. Teamviewer wants something like $700 for commercial use. Ideas?
I use gotomeeting.com for work. I don’t know the specifics of licensing.
for occasional remote control over the internet there’s ammyy.com; and it requires no pre-install. Like gotomeeting, you send the other end to a website, they download one thing and away they/you go.
non-browserdependent:
Timbuktu (requires Skype, weirdly enough, to burrow behind firewalls, but good sw overall)
Mikogo
VNC
Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (Windows only)
Apple Remote Desktop (MacOS only or VNC on Windows)
Yugma
Mac Helpmate / Win Helpmate (they interoperate)
browser-dependent (usually with java downloadable apps):
GoTo works for this, but can have issues if your computer has multiple monitors. (They have a free quick-and-dirty product called join.me, check that out if you want to try their technology out.)
Windows Remote Desktop (IMO) has the best quality (fastest, transmits audio as well as image, etc), and is free but it’s kind of a pain to set up because you need to open ports on your network and have a DNS name.
Also, Microsoft today released Remote Desktop for Android and iOS, so you can use a tablet to connect.
And there’s been an OS X version of Remote Desktop for ages, so you can connect from a Mac. (AFAIK, a Mac can’t serve up Remote Desktop though, just consume it.)
http://join.me maybe? it’s free, but kinda limited in what you can do with the free version. if you have UAC turned on, i’ve found you need to Run As Administrator when you launch the client in order for mouse/keyboard controls to pass to a viewer.
As a commercial teamviewer licencee…I will toss you some of the reasons I dropped the $700.
#1 its a one shot cost…many competing products are monthly services.
#2 no limit on number of connected machines
#3 generally good product
I was using go to assist but the 100 machines per $50/mo licence was getting annoying. They gave me a deal at one point that got me 200 for $63…still outgrew it.
Radmin is the best one

I’ve used DameWare for years. You pay by the number of techs using the software, not by the number of clients. The remote control by itself starts at $259, but the remote support at $349 includes remote control and is a great deal.
We use ScreenConnect. On time payment. Unlimited unattends. Remote support, remote meeting. Unlimited technicians. We use to be in the same boat using TeamViewer. It was giving us issues with client versions whatnot and we came across this in our search http://www.screenconnect.com/Compare-TeamViewer-Alternative
TightVNC works great for me. It’s free.
