I’m currently working my way through The Complete Idiots Guide to Music Composition by Michael Miller, which is good but somewhat basic. The exercises leave a bit to be desired. And I am finding myself somewhat self-conscious reading a bright-orange Complete Idiot’s Guide in public. 
I’m looking now for a more advanced book with a more complete set of exercises; something I can really work at.
Any suggestions?
