August 3 I’m seeing The Who at Madison Square Garden. I live 2 hours away in Connecticut. I don’t feel like driving home an hour from New Haven after taking MetroNorth there at around 2 a.m. so my parents decided to get me (and my 4 friends) a hotel in town. I figured I’d solicit advice from one of the many NYDopers as to what would be a great place to crash for the night yet not be too much of a financial burden on my generous parental units. I’d go for pretty much anywhere save Hotel Shpennsylvania. Thanks!

Depends what you call cheap, but sorry dude, you’re not going to find GOOD and CHEAP in the same hotel. I stayed at a 3 star (seedy) hotel a few years back (for $90 night) and had to move the dresser in front of the door as the lock was broken. It was the only hotel available on short notice.
You might try Holiday Inn (down the street, I believe) and I think there are even Best Western’s and a few other chains.
Maybe some New Yorker has an inside tip, but I think your best bet would be to go to a coffee shop and hang out until the first train leaves - and be honest, how much “sleep” is going to go on with you, 4 friends and the aftermath of a WHO concert?
