All of which would be fine, if it were well-written. Probably the only issue on which the Christian community and I agree is “this needs to be cancelled.”
DMark’s post was originally the OP in a separate thread.
Hey, it was fluff. There’s nothing else on at 10 on Sunday, so why not? There are some funny lines, and I love Annie Potts, so it wasn’t bad.
Hubster and I are dealing with the grief of soon losing Desperate Housewives. We watched GCB in hopes of finding a show to assuage the eventual withdrawal symptoms.
There were some mildly funny parts.
I’d say it was slightly better than Pan Am (barf) or Alcatraz (yawn).

I felt bad I missed it (I love Cheno and church humor) until I saw this thread. Thanks for making me feel better!
Well, I just finished it. It wasn’t awful, and you have to remember it was just a pilot so it’ll probably take a few episodes to smooth out. But if this is supposed to be the new Desperate Housewives I think it’s going to fall flat on it’s face. Marc Cherry was great at weaving in the drama very slowly and methodically while tying up loose ends and disposing of old stuff as he went along so there was never too much going on at once. This episode seemed to have about 3 seasons worth of DH stuff sloppily piled into one episode.
I’ll watch a few more episodes and see how it goes.
Also, they did a terrible job syncing up Kristen’s vocals at the end. Yes, I know it was her singing, but Pushing Daisies never seemed to have a problem with it.
I just watched it last night from my DVR. I didn’t like the first 20 - 35 minutes and could have turned it off except my wife was watching it. At the end, it got a little better and I left it thinking I’d try the next episode and see if it came off better.
While I don’t have great hopes, it has a chance with me.

Another fan of Kristin - she’s not aging well…
On the other hand I did like seeing Annie Potts :D…geez I’m old.
The first 30 mins were kinda boring…but it picked up and was funny! Loved Annie Potts!
Well we had it there so we watched it and it wasn’t as bad as I expected after this thread.
I’m pretty sure that was makeup to show how terribly all the “work” she had done had turned out.
Annie Potts did an excellent job as the mother and I’m actually looking forward to the next episode. I think they rushed a lot of the setup into the pilot and it was pretty rocky due to that. I’m willing to give it another couple of episodes to find it’s feet.
Tonight’s episode was better than the pilot. The men on this show are fucking gorgeous, and is it just me or is Annie Potts basically playing Suzanne Sugarbaker?
So, we all know that Kristen is a singer, but every once in a while Cricket will sing as well so I was wondering about her background. In checking I found something I never would have guessed…not in a million years…she was Hedwig’s buddy in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I’ve seen that movie enough times and I never, ever, would have put those two together as the same person. Seen here, she’s the mustachioed brunette with the bandanna on. BTW, there’s music, it might be loud on your computer and depending on your workplace it may or may not be safe.
Here’s a picture if you don’t want to play the video. She’s on the left. BTW, it’s a great movie, if you haven’t seen it.
Also, she was in Short Bus, but I have no idea who she played in that.
So, Simwife and I have become fans - its much better than it deserves to be - almost in a Beverly Hillbillies kinda way.
This last episode was a riot.
The auditions and the performance of the musical were hysterical.
OMG! I know her, she went to high school with my nephew!!!
We are also enjoying the show. We’ve even got our 17 year to watch with us. It’s really hilarious.
Kristen was great in Pushing Daisies.
Aww, hell, to be honest, I’d watch a show of Kristen hanging wallpaper or mopping floors.
I feel the same way about KC, but man, I gave up on GCB after two episodes. It’s just too over the top for me. It’s clearly Desperate Housewives II.
