Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23

I’m surprised no one has opened a thread on this.
Did anyone see it? What did you think of it?
I DVRd it. I totally expected to hate it; but because I really like the actress that played Jesse Pinkman’s girlfriend in Breaking Bad (Krysten Ritter ); I thought I’d give it a try.

I think it has a chance to be a good show. It’s a new twist on an ‘Odd Couple’ sitcom. One million times better than the God Awful 2 Broke Girls.

James Van Der Beek playing a fictionalized version of himself was hilarious. I loved the line from Chloe (Krysten Ritter) in reference to her and James Van Der Beek dating: something like “…it was like trying to stick a cucumber into a coin purse.”

I’ve heard that Dean Cane is going to make a cameo as well.

Somewhat entertaining. But it’s only one show so far. Can they keep it up, or do we see the inevitable character development that destroys comedy?

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. But I also wonder how they can keep he premise going. If Chloe isn’t going to continuously try to run June out of the spartment, then what is the show going to be about?

I did like some of the more “out-there” moments, like the alarm and flashing red light going off as the mortgage firm got busted at the beginning. They had red lights installed, just in case the Feds came in to shut them down? Ha!

Entertainment Weekly compared this pilot favorably to the late, lamented Better Off Ted (golly, I miss that show), which is the reason I gave this a try. Promising start - we’ll see how it develops.

I am one of three people on this board who likes 2 Broke Girls - and this show is, well, 2 Nasty Broke Girls without cupcakes.

I saw it. I really love the potential of the show. It reminds me a lot of Larry David’s short lived but brilliant show “It’s like, you know” in a lot of ways. It could end up being really great with that cast and a group of writers who clearly know what they are doing. But I think it’s going to be canceled. It’s just a little too weird.

I wasn’t crazy about it, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I don’t like it as much as I liked *The New Girl *at first, and I think I lasted maybe 5 episodes before I canceled the season pass on my DVR, so we’ll see how long this one lasts.

I did like that they’re pushing the envelope a bit with the neighbor whacking off in the window, and pixellated nudity. I might watch for a while just to see how quasi-rauncy they can be and still get away with it.

She is indeed a hottie. And she’s naked in the pilot! That’s worth the price of admission right there.

I thought it was really funny and I’m going to keep watching it. I’ve liked Krysten Ritter in other things and thought she was good here. I never watched Dawson’s Creek growing up but I thought James Van Der Beek was pretty funny in this. It is weird how lately he’s been making fun of his celebrity so much with this and James Van Der Memes. I also enjoyed the mortgage company being raided, especially the guy walking by holding a manila folder that was on fire. The crazy stuff at the company reminded me of Better Off Ted.

I can’t remember where I saw it, but I read a review somewhere that said from the second episode the “trying to scare off new roommate” is pretty much dropped, and it’s more of an Odd Couple/having a crazy roommate show. Which works for me with these characters.

It’s working for 2 Broke Girls. But I don’t find pixelated nudity enticing as long as I know she could just be wearing a tan bikini. Where’s the unaltered video?

I was completely unimpressed for the first half. The second half was just marginally good enough for me to try one more episode.

J.

A bit off-topic, and just my opinion, but I think New Girl has hit its stride in the last 2-3 episodes. I was almost ready to give up on it, too, but I have enjoyed it quite a bit in recent weeks. Just in case you might want to give it another shot.

I think it’s rather charming, and if they could keep the premise of, “Good girl thwarts bad girl attempts to turn her to the dark side”, it could have a decent 3 season run.

I found it watchable, which put it a far step above Two Broke Girls. Two things worry me, though.

  1. Chloe reminded me of a Zooey Deschannel evil twin. That can get old really fast.

  2. Now that we’ve seen that Chloe is at heart a warm, sympathetic person and that June is capable of holding her own, where does the show go? Do they try to amp up Chloe’s psychoness? Will June become the evil one?

I don’t think Larry David did that show.

One of the things I liked about the pilot is that June is capable of holding her own. She’s sweeter than Chloe and a little naive, but she’s not a punching bag.

I liked it enough to watch for a few weeks. If it were just 22 minutes of Chloe being a bitch to June, I wouldn’t bother.

“Dawson is the moon!”

So far I like it, mostly because James Van Der Beek is awesome. But it’s a sitcom and in its first season, and I’m watching it. This means it’ll be cancelled soon. Sorry, guys.

I’m going to give it a ‘meh’. The show consists of nothing more then them being nasty to each other, each week trying to out do the previous episode, it’s going to get boring fast. They’re going to have to do something interesting to keep making the bitch a bitch but still keeping her likable. I’ll probably watch another few shows and see hos I like it.

Having said that, I love New Girl.

Huh, you seen to be right. I was positive he was the show creator. Time plays tricks on the mind I guess.

We watched it; we laughed a couple of times, and will give it another week or so. I think they bailed on Chloe trying to get rid of June too quickly; she should have been a psycho for much longer.

James Van Der Beek was surprisingly funny; I think the best moment of the episode for me was him looking wistful, saying that the lesson from this story is don’t be a blonde dude in a Vietnamese jail.

We love “New Girl,” too - very funny!

Why can’t you say “Bitch” on TV?

I assume that’s what the blanks mean.
