Can anyone please recommend a good VPN for Windows 10? Free would obviously be ideal but I understand that’s probably not a real option.

While you’re waiting on someone to recommend a good free service, I can certainly recommend a good paid service: ExpressVPN. I’ve just renewed my annual subscription with them. It’s something like $95 for the year. The software works great with Windows 10 as either stand alone software, or as a browser plug-in. Software is also available to install on Android and Apple devices. Installing the software on new devices is super easy. But, you can also download Router firmware from the site for certain routers. I’ve reflashed one of my routers with their software, so when I need the benefits afforded by a VPN, I can just connect the device through that wifi signal as opposed to installing the software. That’s great for when guest are visiting. They can connect to the VPN without installing software on their device. That way, their connections are secure.
You can only connect a limited number of devices at a time, but the router only counts as one device. You can, for instance, connect all of the televisions in your house to the VPN flashed router, and it only counts as one device. I’ve never had any issues with reliability and there is no drop in bandwidth when connected through the VPN versus the unprotected internet. I am able to stream multiple 4K video feeds simultaneously–such as those available for free on Youtube.

Proton VPN has a free option and seems to be pretty good.
Stay away from free VPNs and proxies. They may log your traffic and data mine your usage since they have to pay the bills somehow!
ExpressVPN has good reviews and a good recommendation. I use Windscribe and got the lifetime subscription when it was available. https://stacksocial.com/sales/windscribe-vpn. The recommended U.S. server is just a fast as my straight connection and foreign servers range from very fast to slow.
