Lately I’ve been accused of being a whiner or a troublemaker because of some of the things I’ve said in ATMB. I want to be clear: I think that most of the moderation that happens on this site is well performed and accurately reflects the rules of the site. The fact that I feel it necessary to discuss moderation that ISTM steps outside the established boundaries should not in any way detract from that.
The problem is that good moderation just never has attention drawn to it. When everything is functioning as everyone agrees it should, there’s just no reason to bring it up. So, I’d like to share an example of some really good moderation, the kind that happens all the time and passes without notice, often because it happens behind the scenes.
In the Kuzuri Principle thread, I made a couple of posts that **Spectre of Pithecanthropus **read as saying that the Holocaust was hearsay. He PMed me about it, and I was then able to respond back clarifying my meaning. I then also decided to post to the thread itself to make sure that my intentions were clear. A neat, elegant, and efficient piece of moderation that nobody would ever know even happened if I didn’t mention it, because it all took place in PMs.
So, thank you guys for the good work that you do. Please don’t ever feel that you’re not appreciated because of the small fraction of your work that some members, including me, choose to comment on in a negative way. We all have the same goal: making the SDMB a great community to be a part of.
