I just got a Roku player, thanks to a thread here, and I love it
What are some good movies available for Netflix streaming?
I don’t like romance, horror, or action movies, but I like dramas, comedies, and documentaries.
I NEVER watch movies or commercials, so I have never even heard of almost every movie out in the last several years, and I don’t even know where to begin looking.
I recently watched [The Station Agent](Netflix Station Agent&oq=The Station ag&ac_posn=1) with Peter Dinklage (Tyrion on Game of Thrones). It’s about a dwarf that inherits an old depot in a small town and it was really a great movie about being lonely and reaching out vs. pushing people away.
If you don’t mind subtitles, for straight drama I really liked I Loved You For So Long. This one was darker, based on two sisters where one was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for murder.
For straight up comedy there’s quite a few stand up comedians on Netflix. Margaret Cho’s shows Assassin and Beautiful are both on there. Janeane Garofalo’s If You Will made me laugh a lot and Aisha Tyler is Lit is just hilarious.
Thanks for the link, even though I currently don’t do streaming. And the section there that lists content that is “about to expire” is one of the reasons. It’ll be a long time before physical DVDs of those things go out of print and become unavailable to rent. Give me DVDs over streaming.
Well, comparing the Recently_Expired & Soon_To_Expire lists with the Upcoming list, I’ll gladly keep streaming. Although I might not relinquish my DVD option altogether. And I’ll definitely replace my DVD player–Buckaroo Banzai is leaving but I have the DVD & I don’t want to only view it on the PC monitor. Perhaps I should watch Lonesome Dove again–although that might be a worthwhile BluRay purchase when I really upgrade my video options…
I’ve got a long list of movies in my Streaming Queue–along with a bunch of TV shows. I’m sure many Classics & Cult Faves will be mentioned here.

[li]I’ll put in a word for* Dean Spanley*, a Lord Dunsany story with a stellar cast; it never got theatrical release in this country, but I found it lovely. I’m glad I knew nothing about it before watching. Just watch it, OK?[/li]
[li]Then, there’s The Moderns. From the moody Alan Rudolph, we see Paris in the Twenties. Can Arty Pretentiousness coexist with a Sense of Humor? Again, if you think you might possibly be interested–click & watch![/li][/ul]
I love, love, love that movie!!! First time I became aware of Peter Dinklage and his performance is so sublime and moving in it. His role as Tyrion was awesome but watching The Station Agent you can really sense his ability as an actor willing to put himself completely in a role. The film really is a great piece of work. I totally second this suggestion.
THE JONESES has David Duchovny and Demi Moore each doing their signature best to top each other at being low-key, with Gary Cole doing his plainspoken schtick right back, which gives an interesting movie an especially interesting tone.
I see it’s not on Instant, but if you liked Punch Drunk Love, I’d recommend Stranger Then Fiction. I honestly don’t remember it well, but I do remember liking it.
Stranger Than Fiction was great too. I liked it for different reasons. I just can relate to Adam Sandler’s character on some level… when he breaks down crying you don’t know if it’s funny or sad.
