I’ve long been fond of a band named “Annwn,” a loose conglomeration of various musicians who played “Celtic rock” for lack of a better description. Two of the members were friends of mine from back in the SCA days, and I spent many a happy hour singing around a campfire with them.
I keep track of them once in a while, checking out their web site to see what the newest haps are–unfortunately, today I see they’ve broken up the group and the business end is shut down as well.
This is a bummer. On the good side, though, they’ve elected to post all of their catalog as MP3s free for the downloading. Six albums, music ranging from Celtic standards to Jethro Tull tracks to original songs, all of it quite nice to listen to and now available to anyone with some bandwidth.
So, since it’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good, here’s the link to their erstwhile site. Check it out, download some new music and raise a beer or two the next time you’re having one to Annwn–I’m gonna miss you guys!
Here’s a very sad update to my OP–I just received an email from one of the two mainstays of the group, who informs me the reason for the band no longer existing is that Leigh Ann Hussey, known in the SCA as Siobhan Ni h’Eodhusa or Siobhan the Fiddler was killed this May in a motorcycle accident. I am so sad right now I don’t know what to do, so I’m going to post this and then go to bed.
She was an awesomely talented and gracious lady, a fabulous musician, incredibly intelligent, a brewer of renown, a fascinating conversationalist and I was privileged to know her.
