Good note-taking apps for a Chromebook

Hi.

I’ve started working towards a new certification and for the first time in many many moons I have to write actual scholarly papers with multiple sources, etc. Once upon a time I was taught (and used) the file card method of note taking, but in this day and age it seems a bit silly to copy out information from books by hand and then retype them. Several of my sources are library books and also I will want to use some information for other papers for other courses, so just putting post-its into the books will not work. I was going to just type quotations/ or ideas into Google Docs and make categories… ie. Carr, Nicholas “Thoughts on McLuhan”, or “Brain Structural Changes, various authors”.

Something tells me though that “there’s an app for that” that will streamline this for me. I have heard of One Note, etc but never had any use for them. So, fellow dopers, what is a good way to organize my info for this new century. Please also remember I am using a Chromebook 90% of the time, and do not have Microsoft software installed, nor do I want to purchase any. Free app, or I go back to my file cards.

Have you tried Google Keep? It is pretty light feature wise, but it is fast. It is cloud based, so you can access the same notes from an android device, a PC and (I am assuming) your Chromebook.
