Amazon is promoting this thing out the wazoo. No way they would remove it. They’ll have better luck with Netflix.
As someone pointed out to me, Netflix in fact didn’t have anything to do with Good Omens and since it’s not getting another season, it was in fact canceled. So their petition worked… from a certain point of view.
Not that it would likely make any difference if it was on Netflix, which just renewed a show called Lucifer whose main character is the devil himself for another season.
But yeah, morons being morons.
Netflix tweeted out: “Ok we promise not to make any more”
Amazon tweeted: “Hey @netflix, we’ll cancel Stranger Things if you cancel Good Omens”
hehheh.
I listen to a lot of audio books, and 99% of the time books read by their authors are deadly bad. Gaimen is the exception. He is as good as most professional actors.

I don’t know if the accent was intentional or if she’s just not great at changing her natural voice, but it was quite distracting - so I agree she didn’t work well in the role. But aside from the accent, I thought her acting was quite good.
I’m not getting what the problem was with the accent? In the book was the character the quintessential American girl or something?
Yeah I don’t get it either. That girl was a many-generations descendant of an English witch living in America. There’s no reason she couldn’t have had any particular accent
Exactly. Like the possibility that she had a parent from another country . . .or that she came from a wealthy family and studied abroad? One can scarcely argue that she had an average upbringing.
In the 20 or so generations since 1655, the family’s nationality could have circled the globe several times.
This argument about accents is starting to remind me about the thread regarding whether or not you can change a character’s race.
Puerto Ricans are US citizens. The “Puerto Rican accent” is an American accent. It may not have been the American accent you imagined the character having when you read the book, but it’s just as legitimate as any other American accent.
Also, her mother had a distinct accent, and some of that might have rubbed off even if she grew up in (I think?) Malibu and never left until she went to the UK.
Did they say that on the show or is that background from the book only?
Episode 2, about 13:30 minutes in, they have a nice little placard that said “Malibu, CA”, as they panned in to the house Anathema lived in as a child. You also hear her mother speaking with the accent that I can’t identify as other than Hispanic.
I love that Netflix and Prime both went right at the joke.
It’s been a while since I read the book, but there, wasn’t she just British?
I’m pretty sure she was. Also:
Her family is loaded, so she could have picked up a bit of an accent spending summers/holidays with her family in their Puerto Rico vacation home. (Hope Agnes warned them about Maria!)
Puerto Ricans are American, a Puerto Rican accent is an American accent. I really am completely missing the point of this conversation.
