Arguably some good news. Pedophile pervert and self-proclaimed “prophet” Warren Jeffs has been sentenced to life in prison for impregnating a 15 year-old and sexually assaulting a 12 year-old. Good riddance, I hope you rot in prison for a long, long time.
But I am elated. This guy was pure fucking evil. Yet, while he was probablythe worst of the bunch, he was hardly the only man involved who was just sure God wanted him to have as many young brides as possible. Isn’t that always the way? It’s like God’s got nothing else on his mind except young girls, McMansions and, occasionally, dodging taxes.
If God tells you to do something, and it is evil, it wasn’t God. Do people really think we Christians haven’t already dealt with what to do with someone who claims “God told them” when it winds up hurting other people? Please.
Read here for a list of scriptures on the subject.
The only problem is that too many people don’t follow the Bible on this, and let people get by, like a bunch of people you can name. And, of course, there are a few things that are contentious. Pedophilia and rape are not among them.
I wonder what the history of incarceration is regarding this church and past incidents in which older men took child brides. Has anyone else been jailed before? Is Jeffs unusual or simply the most egregious offender?
