Off and on anyway. My wife had a stroke and it’s just she and me, but she helps with the writing of these posts.
It’s a little sporadic, I know, and I am careful to not post anything that might result in name-calling, but this still is my my first internet bulletin board.
I tried smoking hash once, but couldn’t get the corned beef lit.
Thank you and my wife (Dondra) says thanks for the well wishes. The stroke affected her eyesight only and that’s getting better and she remains the only driver, but with me as navigator, we’re okay with that.
We do neuro-checks on each other every day, and due to the meds we both have to take (get mine from the VA) sometimes we miss the questions, but all in all we’re fine.
“smile, what day is it, who’s president, what color card am I holding up?” are among some of the questions we ask each other.
There are others. A couple of years ago, I spoke to some high school students about the types of dementia and we passed out note cards beforehand and asked them all to print 3 very simple questions on them which we took up later.
There were a bunch of repeats, of course, but those are what we use.
My dad joked his memory was fading. He wrote himself a note that he kept in his wallet. He said every morning he’d get it out an read it: ‘Good morning. Your name is Woody. Have a nice day.’
I asked him how he remembered to read the note. GOTCHA, dad!
