Look, right now, a lot of stuff might go down. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have my own opinions of the looming war. They don’t matter.
Setting aside our differences, I suggest that we have a thread that is–basically–devoted to individuals who are serving overseas. You know, just a generic good vibes thread.
Basically, just listing a name (first or last, or just a nickname, or a handle), maybe an explanation of why they’re so important, and some generic good thoughts/prayers/words/vibes. We might differ on opinions of the war, but I’m pretty sure that no one here wants people to die, especially not people who are precious to other Dopers.
Starting…
Matt, Shadez’s and my APO brother, US Marines.
Caesar, a high school aquaintence and a best-friend-of-a-friend, US Army.
May the God and Goddess watch over you, and all the souls on the battlefield.
Here is hoping that the actions our soldiers take in the coming days are honorable, skillfull, and moral as I know the best of us are capable. Blood will be shed and people will die. I can only hope that the sacrifice and the pain and the danger and the drama and the action and the bombs and the words of the politicians and the daring of the soldiers and the dignity of the citizens of all the world can rise above our horrible potential to someday meet a destiny of peace and stability.
There are no easy choices and fewer clear paths. Lets hope our chosen means lead to noble ends. Lets hope as few people as possible suffer and die. I don’t pray but I feel a connection to people and existence and whatever it all is. All of the people in the world are in my thoughts tonight, and as fucked up as Earth can be, I still have hope. We are all closer to each other than most ever realize. My love for humanity and positive vibes flow tonight to all those who are or will be in danger in the coming weeks. May we find a way, some fine day, to look back and realize that we have made all of this pain worth it. . .
Happy St. Patricks day too. I’m gonna knock a couple back, now.
Kell’s brother, Linda’s son, and every single man and woman who is serving our country, who has been taken away from family and friends and plopped in an unfamiliar place, wherever that may be, and who are called upon to do some tough things:
I admire and respect you all. I think we owe you a great debt. You are not forgotten, I think about the service people every single day, because I know what a terribly, terribly difficult job it must be. Clerks, mechanics, fighter pilots, ditch diggers, it doesn’t matter: you all must be operating under tremendous pressure, and I salute you.
To all the men and women who are sacrificing so much for freedom and liberty, risking their lives for the safety of those at home: Our respect, admiration, and gratitude are more than can be expressed. I don’t know any of you personally, but I think of you every day and wish you honor and success, and to come home safely to those who love you.
In honor of St Patricks Day, I offer a traditional Irish blessing to all the brave men and women who have left their homes and loved ones to protect us all.
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
If it is war, then may it be a speedy war with minimal casualties. Let the valor and honor of American and its allies troops be the birthplace for a more peaceful Middle East.

My little sister is in Saudi Arabia right now at Prince Sultan AFB, and will be until June at the earliest. I’m terribly worried for her safety and the safety of her co-workers. Happy thoughts sent her way are much appreciated.
I don’t think the war itself is a good idea, and I don’t generally agree with most of what GWB does or says. However, I am 110% behind the men and women who are putting themselves in harms way in the name of our country. They are doing a hard, dangerous job. I hope as many of them come home safe as possible. On that note, I hope that the casualties on both sides are low. Here’s to a quick resolution to the situation.
Good thoughts and prayers to all of our Doper soldiers (even if they’re not overseas) to my cousin Keith who is in Afghanistan (I’m hoping he’ll be able to return to his new bride soon), and to my “adopted” soldiers Dwayne and Sam. May you all stay safe.
