I don’t get it either. I used to consider my self conservative but now I am a moderate with a few liberal tendencies. [hijack]On a couple of issues (notably gun control and law enforcement) I thought I was conservative until I saw that GWB plans to sign an extension of the Assault Weapons Ban if it passes Congress. If I favor letting this utterly useless bit of legislation expire and the prince of the neocons favors extending it, where does that leave me? How in the hell did I end up right of GWB on anything?[/hijack]
I welcome voices from either side of the aisle. If nothing else, thoughtful debate of the issues could cause more pseudo-conservatives like my former self to start thinking for themselves.
It’s not really wierd at all if you look at some of the politically oriented threads. You may have noticed that on most panel talk shows, and this was especially apparent on “Politically Incorrect” but it’s the norm most other places on t.v. as well, you will generally find it’s one conservative doing battle against four or five liberals and the outnumbered conservative in effect gets shouted down.
Same here.
Then someone will announce the score is 7 to 1 and the conservative loses, when all it reallly means is that 7 liberals have been enthusiastically ganging up on the lone conservative, and then this imbalance is used, rather than the validity of their posts, in order to declare themselves victorious.
Oh, those poor, poor, picked-on conservatives.
Well, that’s why we don’t know who he is. He’s only posted 370 times since he registered.
I mean, it’s not like QED is leaving…
Who?
Doctordec we hardly knew thee.
It’s amazing how they can have control of the Presidency and Congress and still be an oppressed mass, isn’t it?
Why would libertarians congregate at johnkerry.com? Maybe the first problem is one of nomenclature - know thy enemy, Dr.Dec.
I don’t recognise the guys user-name, but bye anyway!
(Bolding and underling mine)
Exactly. Which is precisely why most people on this board have no idea what my political/social/world views are. Since they tend to fall on the conservative Republican and/or Libertarian side predominately (though not exclusively, I prefer to think for myself and make up my own mind, thank you very much), every time I offer an opinion that differs from the “accepted norm” on here, I get shouted down. So I gave up, and stick to MPSIMS. Life is too short, and I have way too much going on in my life, to waste the energy debating some things with people who have no real interest in hearing my views and wouldn’t change their mind anyway.
So, Doctordec, I guess it’s goodbye. Not sure why you’re really leaving though. I’m here, and I’m staying; because I like the vast majority of people. Because I love the differences, the nuances, the perspectives; all the things that make each one of us unique, and yet at the same time part of the human condition. I’m proud to be a Doper, and don’t mind in the slightest paying for the privilege of being able to interact here.
For an example of my views, if anyone is interested: I am vehemently ANTI Abortion on a personal level. At the same time, I am just as emphatically PRO Choice. Whatever the Politically Liberal Media may try to say, there is no dichotomy for me in this stance.
¯*Goodbye, cruel board
I’m leaving you today
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
Goodbye all you people
There’s nothing you can say
To make me change my mind
Goodbye.*¯
I can’t recall seeing a single post by this guy.
Anybody got a representative thread this guy started, or played a significant role in?
I think most who post are liberal, so I goess that makes you extreamist liberal, anyway, thanks for the memories, and the bandwidth mooching.
The above is the most recent thread started by the OP, prior to the one we are in now. He posed an idea in Great Debates, some folks gave long, well thought out answeres, and the OP never returned.
The five GQ threads he started before that all got answers, to which he never replied, or thanked anyone for. So I find it odd that now, finally, in the OP, he thanked people for answering his questions.
Before that, in 2000 and 1999 he had eight threads, in various fora, to which he did reply sometimes.
Wow. The next thing you know, you’re going to say you don’t know who I am, either.
He sure could yell.
Jbee, how could I ever forget you? Not after that night in Thailand. Remember? Remember the tong lords? That frantic struggle at the docks? The woman with jade green eyes who told us both she loved us, then betrayed us to the British? Remember that desperate run through the streets of Bangkok, chased by river pirates on mopeds? That final, fiery apocalypse in the opium den?
But no, the past is behind us. Better to leave such things buried.
Besides, we’ll always have Paris.
Wait! You told me that Paris was all about us!
You forgot the Trained Komodo Dragons.
How you could forget the Trained Komodo Dragons I’ll never understand.
Those #$%^*&% lizards ate my Bananna Splits lunchbox! And I had a sandwich in there!
They even got my Ho-Hos.
Goddammit, Miller, who haven’t you used that Paris line on?
