All of a sudden, every thread I open has relevant ads, even ones less than two hours old! No more mailing list ads anywhere. Yay Google! I wonder what took them so long? They must go through an interesting process before assigning relevancy.
Of course, as soon as I post this, I see mailing list ads. But I’m willing to give them a little time to find the thread.
When you post and are taken back to the thread, the URL has an anchor appended to it to make the browser jump to your post. Google does not recognize this modified URL, since it changes with each post and therefore cannot be spidered. If you go back to the index page and click on the thread again normally, you will again see the relevant ads.
I mentioned in another thread that I did actually get relevant ads after a reply, with the modified URL. I don’t know how Google is doing it, but they apparently are.

Intersting indeed. I see a great new parlor game evolving.
Hmm. Interesting. I haven’t noticed that in any of my new replies yet–thus far they have always defaulted to mailing list ads or somesuch until I reload the thread from the index. Maybe the Google spiders are capable of ignoring the ? and & directives in the URLs.
