Does Google ever lose track of what thread it's on?

I ask this because of the ads I just saw at the bottom of a GQ thread. In the thread on flipping a coin to get 5 possibilities, I’m getting three ads for brewing beer, and one for making tea. None of these are the default ads, and they’re related to each other, so clearly Google thinks it sees some sort of pattern. But there’s no mention of beer, brewing, or tea anywhere in that thread, other than in the ads themselves. And earlier, the thread was getting ads concerning gambling and slot machines, which make sense, given all the mentions of coins and probability. But beer and tea?

On the other hand, there’s also currently a thread in GQ asking whether tea is brewed. A thread like that, I can see how Google would come up with ads relating to brewing and to tea. So maybe Google just lost track of which thread it was in, and those ads were meant for the tea thread? Has anyone else ever noticed this happening?

Hadn’t noticed offhand, not too sure how this works.

When it does it’s pretty amazing; when it’s way off, it’s funny.
