Stop hijacking threads to comment on the google ads!!

This is really getting annoying. I don’t like reading an article only for it to be hijacked saying: “Look! We’re talking about tea-bagging, but they’re trying to sell tea bags. Hehe!!” It’s not relevant, it ruins the flow of the thread, and it’s simply inappropriate.

If you don’t like them, then there are many threads to vent at. If they don’t annoy you, then stop annoying everyone else by commenting about them. There are threads where you can “influence” the ads to your heart’s content.

Plus, when someone looks at the archives in a year, s/he will undoubtable go WTF because unlike the comments, the ads are not archived??

And if you have the ads blocked, then you have no right whatsoever to ask people to post what they say. Unblock the dam ads!!

So, for the love Og, please stop this madness.

I suggest that you chill. The comments on ads are because they’re new. As we get used to them, there won’t be so many comments.

Apparently we won’t have to get used to them because they are going away for paying members.

That’s only a thought at the moment, Airman. (Or should I call you Sergeant?) It may not happen.

oh look, you talked about tea bagging and they’re trying to sell us tea!!! hehehehehe

(you knew someone was going to, didn’t you?)

…ah, so have you checked out the “tea” ads at the bottom of this thread?

I think you are going off in the wrong direction when you imply that the people commenting on them don’t like them. I find that most of the people commenting on them are people who find them amusing. I’ve also noted a number of people who have disabled their ad blockers because they’ve realised that they can be pretty funny.

Personally I think the whole thing’s given the SDMB a new lease on life over the last few days. A new topic for discussion! New jokes! Of course it all gets old fast, but who cares, the furore will die out quickly enough.

I had it typed out and thought better of it. But for the sake of future generations, you should have pointed out that the ads for tea are showing at 9:57 am MDT, 29 September 2005 C.E., else someone may be confused.

The thread was about teabagging, fer crying out loud. You expected better from people who post in a thread about playing with nut sacks?

I’m not slow. Wring’s post wasn’t there when I started my reply, honest.

Oh, and FTR I was one of the people who posted in the teabag thread. Twice.

But this was one of those rare times when I entered a thread before the obvious post was done and I couldn’t resist.

Yeah some could come in and mention lingerie and the ads may change. Victoria’s Secret.

I just wanted to mention here that Chinese Tea is an Amazing Tea for Health, Longevity Strength, Stamina, Sex and more!

I do believe I have had an affect on the ads in this thread, I feel… happy, somehow.

I never said that. I presume most people commenting about them were just amused. I was just stating places where people could go talk about the ads without hijacking a thread.

That was just the first example to come to my head (why? I’ll leave that up to you.) But there are many more.

Saw this rant coming from 10 miles away. I’m just going to quote TYM’s sage advice because my prepared statement says about the same thing only with a lot more cursing.

Oh, my friend has this band called Susie’s Neighbor. He looks like Calvin (kind of).

Yes, I was conscious that you may not have been intending that which is why I said “imply”. I thought you were implying that because in one breath you are complaining about people commenting on the ads in threads and then in the next breath you are suggesting that if people don’t like the ads, they can start their very own thread to vent. So it appeared (to me) you thought that the people commenting on ads in threads were people who don’t like the ads.

No harm no foul :).

I’m guilty of this, you can now sue me.
