Google and their ever-changing themed logo designs

I noticed YouTube’s logo is green for Saint Patrick’s Day… This is the first time I’ve seen their logo change… I’d assume this is going to be the first of many future changes. Google’s logo is also themed for the holiday.

What do you think of these logo changes? Do you like or dislike them?

I like them for Google. They add a bit of whimsy to an otherwise utilitarian web site. They also add variety to Google - it’s not the same thing every day. Google highlights some less-well-known holidays and people as well. Google manages to do make the logo changes and still keep their site design simple and clean.

I haven’t really noticed changing logos for other web sites, but I don’t get out much.

They’ve been doing it since 1999.

(He was referring to YouTube)

I like the google ones. They are nice reminders of certain holidays, events, people, etc. I noticed also if you’re not sure what the event/logo is for all you have to do is click on the logo itself. Helpful for famous artists I’m unfamiliar with.

FWIW, Live search does something analogous, only with photos. It tends not to be as whimsical as the Google logos, but it’s kinda neat.

Don’t feel bad. I thought he was talking about Google too. Reading Comprehension!

Well, he may have thought he was, but he has a very bad way of showing it.

I was beginning to wonder if anyone took this route. Kinda neat… It’s nice that it doesn’t use the entire page background and just the right portion of space.

As for Google I prefer only the logo change, if any. The only reason I use Google is because of the simple appeal it has. Should they begin changing their background or adding other things to their front page I’ll probably be less interested. Heck, when they changed their header bar to what it is now it gave me quite a headache… just wasn’t use to it. I still haven’t gotten over the new favicon.

I like it when they switch up their logo - Achewood explains why.

Yahoo! has a regrettable logo, but Google, your mom made your logo. You were running late that day, and she drew it in the car on the way to the meeting.

Yeah, but try teaching your septuagenarian mother, over the phone, how to recognize that she is, in fact, on Google when they keep changing the ^&*%! logo. I had this conversation with her not long ago:

Me: “OK now open Internet Explorer… It’s open?”
Mom: “Yeah…”
Me: “Do you see the Google logo?”
Mom: “No! I just see some brown thing that looks like a bunch of sticks.”
Me: Opens up Google, sees that they’ve replaced their boring, easily-recognizable logo with some brown thing that looks like a bunch of sticks. “OK, that’s Google. They just change their logo sometimes.”
Mom: “Why do they do that?!?!?”
Me: “Um, for fun, I guess…” Sigh.

I seldom get to see the themed Google logos because my home page is the default Firefox start page, which has just the standard Google logo on it regardless of what Google is using for a logo that day. Every so often I tell myself that I should make a point of checking out the Google website every day just to see if they’re doing anything different that day.

May be of use to you…

What part of that is confusing to you??

Maybe the thread heading?

I stand aghast at the poorly thought out OP.

He starts out in the thread title talking about Google. He ends the OP talking about Google. The part in the middle, where he refers to YouTube, was easily bypassed when it is thus framed.

And I was supposed to know that the OP was entirely about YouTube? It’s messed up.

Well, YouTube is Google, being owned by them and all. Perhaps the OP was referencing this.

Yeah, right. He may have been referencing bugger all as well.
