Google auto complete is getting creative.

I was just trying to remember the name of that ham/pork in Chinese restaurants with the red glaze.
So I went to google and typed in “Chinese red ham”

It narrowed it down to a single auto completed suggestion" See if you can guess what it is?

chinese dwarf hamster red testicles

missed it by that <–> much.

Odd. If you type “red chinese ham”, the first option is “red chinese hamster ovary cells”.

What is Google’s obsession with Chinese hamster gonads?

They’re secretly breeding a Chinese Red Balled Super Hamster to power the new Google server upgrade, that’s my guess.

Can SDMB get a few? They might be an improvement over the capybaras running its server.

The dish is pork (not ham).

On a more helpful note, David Chang did a series for PBS titled “Mind of a Chef”. In one episode, he makes that red Chinese BBQ dish you mention.

But he makes the red braising liquid from Hawaiian Punch, Starbust (Strawberry, I think) and strawberry Menthos. I’m sure there are some other ingredients, but it came out looking almost florescent red, just like the stuff you seek.

PBS is generally pretty good about having their shows online, but I don’t see much of Mind of a Chef there.

To be fair, CHO cells are pretty frequently used in research. No idea why they have to be red though.
