Google Chrome: how to make new tab show GC's home page?

Whenever I open a new tab, GC shows an “apps” page that lists, among other things, thumbnails for “most visited sites” and “most recently visited sites”.

I don’t want that. I want the new tab to show Google’s home page. Can I change the settings to do this? If so, where do I find the menu? I realize I could just open a new window, but I prefer to do tabs.

Thanks!

I have this exact same question. I’ve looked and looked through the tools and options and I’m just not seeing how to do what the OP describes.

::sits back and awaits Chrome Guru::

I don´t know about Chrome, but most programs that I have used, just go to Tools, Options and set your home page. Perhaps Chrome doesn´t have that option though.

It figures…I post to the SDMB because I’m at my wit’s end, only to find my answer minutes later: I need an extension.:smack:

Thanks to all who posted. Much obliged!

You can set your home page. But when you open a new tab in Chrome, it displays the page that the OP describes. There’s nothing in the settings to change it.

I love Chrome, but this is one of the major “huh?” bits for me. If the home page isn’t the default load, it’s not the home page. It’s just a bookmark with it’s own little house icon.

Chrome’s speed dial really bugs me. It doesn’t use space well and doesn’t let me customize it into a useful landing page. It doesn’t even allow extensions to run, so the mouse gestures I use to navigate get stopped if I ever click on it. I have it replaced with an extension that allows gestures, but is still clumsy.

The “real” speed dial in Opera is much better in terms of design and customizability, but isn’t enough to switch me back to Opera.
