When I open a new tab, it brings up a blank page, and only when I type something in the search bar at the top of the page does it take me to Google. I want Google to come up every time I open a new tab.
I use the Chrome extension New Tab Redirect so that when I open a new tab, it takes me to google.com.
I see it says it’s free on the Chrome store site, but where is the button for downloading it?
I think there should be an “Add to Chrome” button you can click.
I don’t see an “Add to Chrome” button on the page you linked to.
For me, it says “Remove From Chrome,” because I already have it installed.
Maybe someone else who doesn’t could check and see if they can see it?
This will only be there if you’re using Chrome on your computer.
@Something, are you talking about Chrome on your phone? You can’t install extensions on your phone.
I don’t think you can change your New Tab page on Chrome for your phone. But you can make Google your home page and your startup page:
Set your homepage and startup page - Android - Google Chrome Help
I’m using Chrome on my laptop, and I’m not seeing an Add to Chrome button anywhere on these pages you link to.
That’s bizarre, as the message about it being “free in Chrome” is only supposed to show on browsers other than Chrome on PC/Mac.
Is it possible that your version of Chrome is really old? Can you click the menu button on the far right, click Help, and then “About Chrome” and tell me what version it says?
Just a quick note that, when clicking on the link, I see a button that says “Add to Chrome” (as it should be). The button is blue and is directly across from where the title of the extension - “New Tab Redirect” - is. I agree with BigT - either a Chrome version or a screenshot of what you see when you follow JimT’s link would be helpful.
Also, on the page Jim linked to, if you scroll down, there should be a section called “Overview” - directly under the word “Overview” it says (for me):
Compatible with your device
I’d be interested to know what it says in the Overview section for you.
Interesting that DuckDuckGo loads when I open a new tab. Maybe because it is my home page? And I told Chrome to open the home page on a new tab? And to open the new tab page on startup?
