Google Moog

Today’s Google Doodle is a Moog synthesizer, but it will not work in Firefox (12). Instead I gt message to “upgrade to a modern browser” and a link to download Chrome. Looks like Google’s “do be evil” aggressive marketing has moved into the doodles now.

The synthesizer does work in IE 9 (64 bit version, anyway) but I still get told to “Upgrade to a modern browser and see what this doodle can really do.”

This sort of thing makes me not want to use Chrome.

I’ve got Firefox 12 and it works fine for me (aside from a little ad suggesting that I switch to Chrome).

Huh, I just see the normal google page.

Only for Australia. https://www.google.com.au/

Works fine for my Firefox (version whatever).

Won’t work for me using fully updated Firefox. I’m running NoScript and AdBlock, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. Regardless, I’m sick of Google and the fucking doodles and all of the other crap they clutter up their page with. All I want is a clean, useful search engine.

I do think they should have one day where the Google search page is mint green in honor of their obvious and pathetic Facebook envy.

You mean the black toolbar across the top and a search box? Oh, the horror.

Yeah, there’s a doodle every few days, but I’d hardly call it clutter. Do you use Yahoo? Now that’s clutter. I use it at work so I can see what’s going on in the outside world, but there’s a lot of crap on that page.

I have firefox…something, probably the latest since I just re-imaged my machine last week…and didn’t see an ad or anything.

DID have to stop playing with the synthesizer toy though, after my sleeping cat woke up and glared at it.

Yes. Also the condescending “Upgrade to a modern browser” crap, the assorted Google advertising crap along the bottom of the screen, and their constant needy whining about how much better it would be if we all used Google Chrome and joined Google + and used Google brand ass creme.

Yahoo! has always sucked, but it’s never been primarily a search engine (even when it thought it was). Just because Yahoo’s page is crammed full of horoscopes and Kardashian doesn’t mean Google’s increasing suckitude is any less annoying.

Try turning off NoScript. That’s what worked for me.

It works fine in Safari, but I also get the “Upgrade to a modern browser and see what this doodle can really do” message at the bottom.

I tried Chrome when it came out, didn’t like it. Tried it again more recently, still didn’t like it. Insulting the programs I do like is not going to make me switch.

Ok I got it to work in Firefox by turning off Flashblock, even there is no sign (of the sort that you usually get with Flashblock) that Flash is involved or that it is being blocked.

There is a diagram (sort of) explaining what all the different knobs do here. However, I have discovered that it is unclear one important point. Once you touch the “modulation” wheel on the left, the modulation effect stays on, even if you turn it down to zero, but it can be turned off again with the small rocker switch above the wheel.

Playing with this a bit has given me more respect for those musicians who actually managed to get some good sounds out of a Moog. Most random settings seem to sound pretty awful, and many tweaks seem to make a negligible difference.

Agreed.

Has Google archived the synthesizer like they did with the guitar? I can’t seem to find it.

All of Google’s doodles that use sound still use Flash. Apparently HTML5’s use of sound is not robust enough for their use.

I have Flashblock permanently disabled on google.com.
