I notice that I have a GoogleUpdate.exe in my task manager processes, and want to know if it’s okay to delete it although it’s listed as a System process, or if there’s a more permanent way to get rid of it, and if there’s some reason for having it. I don’t use Google search, toolbar or sign into YouTube.
It should be safe to kill it. Just because it is running using the system account, it doesn’t mean that it is necessary for Windows to run properly.
To remove it, you will need to uninstall any programs by google that are installed (ie google earth, toolbar, etc). The method for doing this varies depending on the version of Windows you are running (the programs will be listed in the Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features Control Panel item).
