You some kind of mental health expert? Because it sounds like you are just talking out of your ass. This dementia that he’s got isn’t going away or getting better, so I really don’t see how ragging on him is fucking better than patronizing/ignoring him. Do whatever you like, but don’t try and pretend you are doing him some favour by shitting on his head.
And on the other side: BigT, for a guy so desperately trying to uphold goodness and light, you should know that saying “You guys are probably killing him quicker” is full of crap; you should be ashamed of such “hyperbole”.
The “stupid old douchebag” comment wasn’t what set him off. Did you all miss this on page 1:

Now some of you think that if we don’t like what Quasi says or the treatment he gets we should just stay out of his threads. Guess what? Some of us do - myself being one of them. That doesn’t mean that we are ALL obligated to do so, and myself I’m glad mhendo called him out. Maybe he does need to realize what a jerk he is being, and removing himself from the boards for a while is probably the best thing. Hell, I do it, when I find myself getting too mad at some of you, and I don’t even have dementia. It’s just a good coping strategy.
I have enough knowledge of mental health issues to know that patronising people suffering them is pretty nasty behaviour.
Specifically talking about dementia, whilst you are correct that it won’t go away or get better long term, on a day-to-day basis it’s quite variable, and Quasi is well aware of this. The problem here is not that, at his worst, he threatened mhendo, it’s that in a lucid period he continued to insult him, and that people are defending that purely because of his illness.
I won’t quote the entire post, but I just want to say that I know it was a chore for you to write all that. So, I should point out it was perfectly expressed and I’m glad someone took the time to write it.
