Google's doodle today will obviously recognize D-Day, right? Wrong. It's about drive-ins.

I hope this little explanation makes you feel better about being a complete asscrack to someone who was trying to back off and make nice.

Bite me again, twatface.

Here’s the last thing he said in reference to me:

Yeah, that sounds like “trying to back off and make nice.”

Holy shit, you’re retarded. He was backing off of the little spat y’all were having, then it kept getting egged on, then you called him a “stupid old douchebag,” and then he responded thusly. Are you even for real with that response? Never mind, I’m done here. This is capital-S Serious Business for you, apparently, so carry on.

Damn. And here I was hoping for a Holocaust doodle…

You are as dumb as a fucking bag of hammers.

Here’s the timeline of my engagement with Quasimodem in this thread:

Post #53:

So, he accused people who disagreed with him of not knowing about the World Wars, and of not giving a shit about the veterans. Then, with NO FURTHER POSTS from Quasi (i.e., he could not have been backing off, because he wasn’t fucking posting), i responded, in post #59, with this:

Quasi then said, in post #63:

I was perfectly happy to let it go at that point. I wasn’t intending to wade into the debate again, and i made no reply at all to that post. But then, in post #69, Quasi returned with:

An insult, as well as a (rule-violating) threat of violence. And THAT is when i came back and called him a “stupid old douchebag” again.

Is that too hard for you to understand, you drooling tard?

[Moderating]
Quasi, threatening other posters with violence is against the board rules. Please don’t do this again.

No warning issued.

The Maine blew up due to poor design. A coal bunker shared a bulkhead with a powder magazine. Fire in the coal bunker heated the powder next door up to detonation temperature. Blame BuShips, not the Spanish!

We could save a lot of money by eliminating Veterans Benefits and requiring Google to have something military every day.

Whether you think you are genuinely in the right or not, is this an argument that you would be proud of winning?

HOLY SHIT!! You live near one of the few still-in-operation Drive-Ins? So do I !!one!!11!!

Where is that? Mine is here, where’s yours?

But what the fuck am i supposed to do, then? Treat Quasi like a kid? Should i pat him on the head and say, “Yes, very nice. Why don’t you run along now?”

He’s made very clear, on numerous occasions, that he would like, for the most part, to be treated like everyone else on this board. He has asked that we be patient with his dementia and the quirks thereof, but, as far as i can tell, he doesn’t want to be simply told that he’s right all the time, or have smoke blown up his ass just because of his illness.

And having dementia is not a license to make any old argument and have it accepted by people who disagree with you. He posted on multiple occasions in the thread, maintaining essentially the same argument on each occasion. The posts seemed, to me at least, to be lucid and representative of a particular (and, in America, fairly common) attitude to military veterans. There was nothing in any of the posts to indicate that the point of view he presented did not reflect his actual beliefs on the matter.

To be honest, before i made my first post calling him a “stupid old douchebag,” i hesitated a moment. I suspected that it might lead to this sort of clusterfuck. But then i thought, “Fuck that, i’m going to treat him just like i would treat anyone else who made the same comment in the Pit.” And that’s exactly what i did. I didn’t pick on him because of who is he is or because of his health issues; i treated him like a Doper in the Pit.

As i said earlier, this is not part of some bigger problem, as far as i’m concerned. I’ve called plenty of people names in the Pit before, without it developing into some sort of long-term enmity. I don’t generally carry battles or grudges from thread to thread, especially when the battles are unusual, one-off conflicts like this one. But nor do i let my liking for someone stop me from calling them out when i disagree with them. And if that happens in the Pit, then insults might be involved.

If Quasi wants to punch my lights out as a result of an incident like this, then maybe he needs to ask himself whether he should step into this forum at all. Maybe he should ask if it’s possible for the mods to adjust his account so that he can’t come to the Pit. And maybe the powers-that-be on this board need to consider whether it’s possible to maintain the sort of situation that we have now, whereby Quasi is considered to be “just another Doper,” except when he’s not.

We go to the one in Wellfleet, MA on Cape Cod. It’s a blast!

We have one in San Diego too. Seven bucks for a double feature, and the weather around here makes it viable all year round.

I’ve submitted this to Google for next year’s doodle:

You’re so going to hell. (I’m going to Purgatory for laughing)

We actually fell through a small hole in the time/space continuum. We left the city a bit under an hour north. Our town, and the next town over and the next town over don’t even have a McDonalds. Civilization is not too far down the slipstream, but we actually live within comfort of two drive-ins. Thisis in our town, thisis about twenty minutes away. Bliss. The pre-movie classic car shows really add to the mystique.

ETA people should back off mhendo. He’s right that Q asked to be treated like everyone else. When that changes, it won’t be right to blame the interactors. People who continue on afterwards, yes, but now is not that time (I think. But either way, it’s people who persist afterwards that are pitworthy, not those who keep on carrying on).

potty training parents?

Let’s declare war on then Secretary of the Navy William Collins Whitney!

Anyway, back to this D-Day guy. Wasn’t he in Animal House?

I’m finally in the correct place to respond as I’d like and being warned to back off and have had peoples’ feelings hurt??? I will back off and this will be my last post on this subject, but I WILL have the last word, and here it is: Those of you who can’t be bothered to recognize the sacrifices offered up EVERY DAY of any war would do well to take another look and be grateful not only on military holidays but EVERY DAY that you’re allowed to write drivel such as I have read here, walk around in peace and say what you want.

And no, you’re right, I don’t want or need special treatment because of being batshit crazy, but I DO expect a certain amount of respect for my opinions, if not my age. I TRIED my best to keep this cordial, but it wasn’t meant to be, I reckon, so here is my apology to the mods and admins but not to mehendo. I have no further use for this person.

Quasimodem

I recognize the sacrifices offered up EVERY DAY of lots of people, not just veterans. I’m so damned respectful that it’s pouring out of my ears. Every fucking day I realize that my quality of life would be shit if it were not for a giant, ever-changing but often overlapping cohort of people from all walks of life in all sorts of circumstances. Walking around in such a state of awe can make things a bit difficult, but it’s worth it because it allows me to tell sanctimonious pricks who think their special little snowflakes deserve special mention to go eat a bowl of flag pins.

Demanding respect is bullshit and you’ve probably done more to undercut people’s respect for veterans than you imagine.
