This isn’t new. McCain voted in favor of this last year when it came up in the Senate:
Yes, but you were predisposed to dislike them all. What is rougher, is I would like to like some of them and I was left disappointed. Rudy praising Bush at the end was hard to take. I have no idea where my vote is going to go at this point, but no Republican stood out as of tonight.
I did like Rudy’s answer on Terry Schiavo. He still looks like the best of the bunch
Damn. You beat me to it. I was going to comment about how I took a shot each time and the ensuing hospital visit.
I also am curious about who said they didn’t believe in evolution…I saw a few hands up, but I couldn’t see who. (I am sure Brownback was one. What a smarmy bastard. Ugh)
I was disappointed in the job Chris Matthews did in moderating. It seemed on several occasions he went straight to the more popular candidates and didn’t let the others answer.
Many Christians see no conflict between a belief in God and accepting that evolution is true. It is, in fact, the position of the Catholic Church. It is literalist Christians that see a conflict.
That’s not entirely true. I was willing to listen to both McCain and Giuliani. I’m a lefty independent, not a Democrat. If Giuliani had the guts to disavow Bush, I would not think he was a terrible candidate. He and “Maverick” have both disappointed me a lot lately.
The Irish have the Blarney Stone, Republicans have the Reagan Ass. Kissy kissy kissy all night long. Sheesh.
I think you may have misunderstood my point (which, admittedly, wasn’t very clear). I happen to be a Christian who has no problem at all accepting evolution. I didn’t think McCain’s addendum was confusing or oxymoronic or something. I thought it was smarmy base-pandering CYA.
And sorry for my misleading answer earlier – I was listening to the debate on the radio, so didn’t realize anyone had raised his hand. That’s scary.
No doubt. Just seemed kinda weak for McCain to feel like he had to interupt just to throw in a 10 second sermon to reassure everyone that he was still a christian even though he belived in evolution.
The format for these debates suck. They should really just go down the line of candidates with the same big questions “what are you going to do with Iraq? healthcare? SS?”. Jumping around with these mico-issue questions makes it hard to compare candidates and spends to much time on stupid questions (would
Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it, shout about it
When you’ve got to choose
Every way you look at it, you lose
Ah, I did misunderstand. In that case, I agree.
Ok, from reading your past posts, you don’t seem like someone inclined to vote for any of the Republican Candidates. My mistake. I was very disappointed by Rudy, I had pretty much given up on McCain already. I would only vote for him if it was him or Edwards, and that is no sure thing. I am afraid what the Supreme court would look like after a McCain term.
I now look forward to how the Dems shake out. At this point Clinton, Obama and Gore are all viable for me.
Anyone, I missed the answer, what did Rudy say about UHC?
Jim
Thanks, John Mace. Now you can color me ‘previously uninformed’ as well as ‘surprised’ – I hope those two don’t clash.
I can understand how it would seem that way, but my posts reflect more of an intense dislike for Bush (well Bush and the religious right) than an automatic dismissal of Republicans. I have voted for Republicans before. A few years ago, I said on this board that I would have voted for McCain over Kerry. I don’t feel that way anymore. He isn’t what I thought he was.
Speaking of Bush, how did they fare insofar as endorsing or decrying his term and choices as President. Did any of them say what they’d do the same, or differently?
Kevin Drum made the interesting point that Reagan is pretty much the only Republican President that isn’t either toxic or competely out of step with the modern Republican Party.
Much beter than the Demoncrats debate. I can’t bear to watch Hillary for more than 2 minutes at a time. And that black guy, what’s his name? Osama? I only first heard about him about 7 months ago. I’ll take a Republican over a Demoncrat any damn day of the week.
VOTE REPUBLICAN!
Obama, not Osama. Osama is the one that Shrub cannot find.
I laughed (loudly) at that because I assumed he/she was kidding. You were, weren’t you? Oh, I just noticed your username, gladtobeblazed. Um. There you go.
I wonder why they were so inclined to abase themselves before a Idol of The Teflon President when there have been two Republican presidents since him?

The Bushes are Agnellus and Pacificus to St. Ronald’s Francis…
Reagan, while disliked strongly on this board, had a pretty successful presidency. The Bushes, not so much.
