GOP still trending to win Senate

That’s going to be huge fun.

Just like the last time the Republicans were going to take over the Senate, huh?

Oh, right, there was no 2012.

Most of us recognize that the Republicans have a better than even chance of winning, so I doubt you’ll see the shock and dismay we got to revel in after election day 2012.

Oh, you’d see the dismay all right, if it happens.

Except for the millions who will have their misery increased by the GOP’s inept policy positions.

After every major election, there are many people’s whose misery will be increased. The question is whose.

So, if the Republicans DO win the Senate, will that make us a maniocracy or a maniarchy?

Gardner’s lead in Colorado is now high enough that it’s not a tossup anymore:

I sure thought this thread was a repository of people who did not, in fact, believe this.

There were plenty of confident, assured statements about how the GOP takeover would not happen.

Were those statements intended to deceive?

I don’t think there have been so many of those statements recently. Not that all hope is lost, but right now it’s about 60-40 that the Republicans will take the Senate, and from what I can tell, most of the posters here accept this likelihood.

There is a difference between the GOP winning the Senate, and it being a good thing for the country. It seems to me, most people here are saying it would be a bad thing for the country. Not that it can’t happen.

It would be a bad thing, because GOP policy is generally goofy-as-fuck. That doesn’t mean it’s unlikely to happen on election day, it means that more people will suffer needlessly as the GOP attempts to wreck the government.

They could hardly do more in that respect then the President has already done himself. Americans losing confidence in the CDC, that’s something I never thought any President could see happen on his watch. What’s next, Americans losing confidence in Social Security? Hey, don’t laugh, if there was a massive scheme by employees to pocket checks instead of sending them to a few thousand elderly, would the President even know given his management style?

Charles Krauthammer said something a few days ago on Fox that I think is very true: Republicans will probably win the Senate, but they are doing a lot worse than they should be doing. If the Republicans weren’t even less popular than the Democrats, we’d be talking about 10-12 seats, not 6-8. They have a lot of work to do from 2015-2016 to prove they can govern.

Please evaluate the following post:

Do you regard the words “forget about it” as meaning something other than, “it can’t happen?”

Actually, George Will says that with Democrats investing heavily in GOTV efforts, there could be an unpleasant surprise in store for us.

If that did happen, then everything I’ve said about 2016 goes out the window. We would be well and truly screwed.

Fox News doesn’t speak for America.

Do get out more:

I have a question first. Reread my post and tell me, do you see the word “most” in it?

If so, what does your response have to do with anything?

Sure, you said “most.”

But I want to understand where you draw the line. If you were to claim that the post I quoted represents “a bad thing for the country,” and not “that it can’t happen,” then I’d know your judgement was based on a virtually unreachable standard.

I would say that the poster you quoted expressed, what I would consider, a high degree of confidence in the Senate flip not happening.

I’m glad that we can spend time together parsing things. <3
