Well, first I’m no republican (I have little tolerance for the BS in either major party), but since you mention it, Republicrats do have a lot to say about Al. Check this out for a few laughs about the golden boy of the Demicans. And this. It’s definitely a biased source, but they have plenty of quotes from the WSJ and AP. That should take care of your accuracy requirement. And it looks like they do not need to stretch it too far for some real Gore-isms. Yeah, he’s a gem.
(And please, I know there are plenty of these about Bush, but this is Gore bashing, OK?)
but you’ve misquoted him again. He said he “created” it, and in truth, while he didn’t invent it, he did play a major part in making the internet as we know it today, or “creating” it. He stretched the truth, admittedly, but he WAS a key player in the internet’s rise to popularity.
Also, Andros, I think you’re giving sili much too much credit. He didn’t know it was a list of misattributed quotes till I pointed it out.
How old are you anyways? I was on the Internet LONG BEFORE Al Gore even realized it existed.
And just because some of you “Web kiddies” may to too young to remember, it was CERN and the creation of the Web Browser that gave the Internet popularity with the average person, not anything Al Gore reputedly did. Unlike Al Gore, I was there, and watched it all happen, and contributed in a very, very small part myself to making it happen.
If he had just admitted that he mis-spoke - not even that he lied, but just made a mistake - I would actually start to respect him. But instead, he’s doing the 1990’s “in your face, just keep lying and lying and lying because the average American will only hear the sound bites they want to” sort of liberalism of the Clinton years.
Anthracite: you have to realize that there is a major difference between YOU using it and the vast majority of the public using it. He sponsored MANY bills that allowed the net to gain the popularity that it now enjoys.
Like what? No bill passed by Congress will cause anything to “gain popularity”. If anything, it was the simplification of computer/Internet use brought upon by private organizations that resulted in the popularity of the Internet.
No, before Clinton liberals were much more respectable IMO. I disagreed with many positions, but repected the honesty of many politicians much more. Such as the much-maligned Jimmy Carter.
I never said that, or implied it. The topic of this thread is about Al Gore. Open one about Bush and I’ll have some similar things to say about him, and other things I don’t care for from the Republicans.
Dead, brain dead–you gotta have some literary leeway.
I’ll give Al Gore this–I respect him more than I do Bill Clinton. On the other hand, there are houseplants I respect more than Bill Clinton–it’s not a very high standard.
Your above link really doesn’t prove much. The best it states is that Mr. Gore approved continued funding to additional research teams to improve previously-existing 'Net systems, which is, at best, a passive involvement.
i would not vote for Al"self proclaimed internet inventor" Gore if Jesus was his running mate.
i will not vote George"dammit i am SO quailified" W. Bush in 2000 for all the taxcuts in the world.
now repeat after me: The surplus is not as large as they say it is. The surplus is not as large as they say it is. TThe surplus is not as large as they say it is. The surplus is not as large as they say it is.
Anth, I’m sorry. It’s just when I see expressions like “Clinton liberalism” my hackles do pushups.
I saw:
and inferred that the only kind of liberalism is the kind bent on lies (which I believe to be false), that the type of lying is exclusive to the Clinton administration (which I believe to be false), that it’s exclusive to the years Clinton has been in office (which I believe to be false), and that it’s exclusive to the left (which I believe to be false).
I realize you didn’t mean to imply all of that.
I’m not sure I’d agree that liberals were more honest as a whole before the 90’s. Remember, there’s a lot of ground between Carter (too honest for his own good) and Willy. Fritz Mondale was not exactly a paragon, nor were Gary Hart, Dick Gephhardt, Joe “not Niell Kinnock” Biden, or, well, Al Gore. And I think Carter may well have been an exception. Kennedy was hardly honest with the American people.
Of course that’s discussing politicians who are vaguely left of their colleagues, and not really liberals for the most part. I would be willing to argue that Clinton is not much of a liberal at all, but that’s another thread.
Well, while I would like to see the original posting of the e-mail, assuming the text is legit and not out of context I would say it does give Gore supporters much more backing. I will investigate this to see if perhaps I am wrong in my harsh judgement. Which I very well might be.
