Well, given my hatred of Clinton and his policies, including my frequent references to the “Klinton Reign of Terror”, your reaction is understandable to some extent.
Although I was not here then (or here was not here then ) I had similar, scathing criticisms about Bush and the Bush Administration.
I think you might include Lyndon Johnson as a more respectable politician as well, yes? And I didn’t mind Gore’s running mate so much until I started hearing “God” in every second sentence he spoke…
Henry Ford DID take initiative in creating the auto, albeit to a much greater level than Gore did in creating the internet.
And Y2k wasn’t a significant problem, although MS and intel really didn’t have much to do with it.
I guess I just don’t see who’s side you’re on.
Also, on a side note, I’d like to point out that they didn’t even attribute his 'net line to the right show. He said that to Wolf Blitzer, not Katie Couric. If you’re gonna misquote someone out of context, at least attribute it correctly.
Ford may have applied the assembly line concept to auto construction, and his new business created new designs for cars, surely with worthy improvements. He didn’t create the idea of an internal combustion engine sitting on top of four wheels, used for personal transportation. Whatever he may or may not have done for the Internet, Al Gore didn’t come up with, or even help come up with, the idea of the Internet; he should have chosen his words with greater care.
Did he help spread the use of the Internet, or the popularization of it? Maybe - I haven’t read the bills previously mentioned, so I can’t really comment. But if that’s his claim, then he should say so.
Hm. Lots of money and time spent on solving something that wasn’t a problem… (I’d go on to mention how I didn’t have to do anything to any Mac at all to prepare for Y2K, whereas every PC I dealt with at work had to have multiple tests, downloads and upgrades, but I don’t think even the Pit could handle a thread with both politics and PC platform wars! Sorry I brought it up )
Well, my circa 1994 win95A box (never upgraded after August 14, 1995 install) didn’t need any updates, nor did my Feb99 and June99 Win98 boxen, or either of my friends August 99 Win98SE machines.
Not only he invented the Internet, Al Gore wants to jump on the Napster bandwagon, saying that democracy is like using the application. A blatant play from Clinton’s book.
Well, besides the fact that we’ve done a fairly good job in this thread in debunking the claim that Gore claimed to have “invented” the internet, what’s so wrong about a VP agreeing with the president?
Well, you’re not the first, won’t be the last. But I am shocked that you can come up with a ‘firm’ one!
BTW Flymasterbator, did you still not notice the thread title/intent? It’s Gore Bashing, not a debate about the virtues of Al. Do you have any contributions to make or is Al absolutely angelic? Please, let’s see if you have any real knowledge or you’re just following a script written by the DNC. C’mon, one bad thing about Al.
Simple. I’d never in a million years vote for Al if anyone else (ie, Bill) were running. He’s just not a particularly good candidate. I’d vote for Nader if it weren’t basically a vote for Bush. Gore is a boring, not so bright, exagerating, sometimes outright lying putz.
It’s just that Bush is all that and a stupid fratboy republican fuck.
Also, good job with the name. Next time you might want to call me FlyAsster, or perhaps FlymastWhore. Either one would be good.
My main beef wasn’t that you were bashing Gore. It was that you were knowingly (although, I still maintain that it was unknowingly) spreading outright lies about the man. There’s a difference.
Egads . . . why does everyone make this assumption?
Considering the low voter turnout in the last presidential election, it’s entirely possible that a vote for Nader is a vote for Nader, since people that might otherwise not have voted will vote this year, leaving the net population of potential Bush and Gore voters unchanged.
Nah, after your last post, you’re just ‘Fly’ in my book.
::shakes Fly’s hand::
Actually, from what I’ve heard Bush is not all that boring, I hear he really likes to tie one on and party, so he’s alright in my book!
Actually, the situation is as follows: I received an email with those quotes just a day or so before the thread, and I though the timing was just too good. It was a bit suspicious, but just seemed right for the thread. The source was not very political, so I had no reason to think they were misquotes, but if this had been a GD thread I would be in deep doo-doo. Besides, they sound so believable as Gore-isms.
