“Ummmm. What ummmm. About all these ummm, thousands of ballots that have never ummm, been counted? Ummm, there’s enough votes in there to change the ummm, election. Ummmm, what ummm about that?”
Don’t say “Ummm.” It means you are an unschooled idiot, and that you’re not saying anything worthwhile. You’d think the guy might have had some training in public oration. For a man in his position it’s inexcusable not to be coherent.
I don’t know what effect we are going for by having Gore filmed on the phone during a press conference, but it didn’t work. Are we supposed to beleive that all these reporters just happened to catch an off the cuff moment like during an episode of “friends?”
Gore is lying out his ass. Every vote has been counted at least twice. He knows this. However, saying “thousands of votes have never been counted,” sounds a lot better than “Thousands of votes did not indicate a choice for President.” He’s making it sound like somebody is hiding ballots, and depriving people of their right to vote when in fact nothing could be farther from the truth. Those ballots indicate that those people chose not to vote for President. What he would like to do is go back and look through those votes and see if any that could conceivably be for him got lumped in there by accident. This might be a valid idea but it is not what he is saying. He is saying they have never been counted. It’s a deliberate and reprehensible lie designed to create controversy and discredit the election process, to justify his actions over the coming weeks. I’ll bet he uses the “Thousands of votes have never been counted,” line when he speaks tonight. 10 bucks, any takers?
When you lose, admit it. It shows class. Gore ain’t got none. “Sore loser,” will forevermore be changed to “Gore loser.” That will be his sole contribution to posterity. What a putz.
Wow, and for a minute there we really believed you Republicans when you were trying to grab the moral high ground by insulting Stoidela…
If this is the best my countrymen can come up with in the sense of enlightened debate, no wonder people here in the UK snigger when I tell them about the serious aspects of the election. Thanks, Scylla.
Boy, of all those inertebrates, scumsucking inertebrates have got to be the worst. But you simply can’t trust someone without any ert, anyhow. I think the lack of ert is solely responsible for this coutry’s horrific moral decline. Now, Bush, there’s a man with some ert.
Simulpost, Scylla. Within the margin of error. Given my speed of typing, my thought was forumated long before you noticed the typo and decided to request a change. Besides, given that it was a post re a typo, I had to vet my post quite carefully for errors of my own lest I invoke my namesake Law, which probably added a good 90 seconds to my time-of-post.
You had a full minute to check. That’s not a simulpost. I got my post in under the deadline, plus I’m typing with one hand 'cuz my daughter’s asleep in the other.
I historically only fix typos in titles if they make the subject difficult to understand. Yours does not; I would not fix it under normal circumstances without some actual tangible bribery, i.e. beer. Besides, I did an extended riff on it and I did not see your request until it was posted. But I’ll let you claim “moral victory” as long as I get the actual one; I’m no fool.
[list=1][li]A Bush supporter is criticizing Gore’s coherence?! Cute.*Oh, that’s right; Gore lets himself be seen without handlers, unlike Bush, who can’t be trusted to appear in front of cameras without a script. Uh, that’s a bad thing?*You’re the same Scylla who’s participated in the (approximately) three dozen election threads discussing hanging chads, etc. and you still think every vote’s been counted? …what are you; some kinda inertebrate?*“Sore loser” you say? Hey, that’s kinda catchy and original! Boy, I bet Republican partisans could really use that zinger; it’s a pity they’re all far too mature and honest to try it.[/li]—Oh, and, uh, you realize the “loser” part of that’s premature, right? Right?
Christ in a laserprinter, that’s reaching. You want him to rehearse? Until every politician sounds like Edward R. Murrow (who was known to stutter a time or two himself), see if you can cope. Unless you truly think he was incoherent, in which case, I can do nothing beyond suggesting you use a Q-Tip.
The call was planned. It was as much of a statement as he was planning to make. The press wanted in on it. It was a little odd, but hardly worth getting bent out of shape about, or impugning Mr. Gore’s character over.
Obviously, you “know” this too. But how do you know, pally? How do you know that every ballot everywhere in Florida (or indeed, the entire nation) was counted? Are you then going to maintain that the numbers that were certified are the exact numbers? That kind of rose-colored naiveté don’t fly.
It didn’t sound that way to me, but I can see why one might hear it that way.
Aw, jeezus, can you substantiate at all? Even a little bit? Nah, I suppose not. That anti-Gore spin sounds a little frothy today.
Oh, I see. What you meant to say was “When Scylla thinks you have lost, even though he may not know all the facts, concede.” God forbid Mr. Gore should have to go through life knowing you think he has no class.
And please don’t maintain that you do have all the facts–no one does.
I demand a hand recount of both parties’ posting times! That teeny little indentation in the post count is a clear indication of Gaudere’s intent to post!
Gaudere, don’t you dare change the title. This is Just too good. In fact, may I suggest a little hijacking?
Would anyone like to provide a definition of the word ‘inertabrate’?
Inertebrate noun: An class of animal that is completely non-reactive. Can be mixed with other animals,
including highly reactive ones, without bonding or any other way seeming to be aware of their presence.
He certainly managed to speak coherently during the debates. If you are on camera, being filmed, you speak clearly. He’s certainly capable of it. It’s a blunder, and bad form, during a pretty important moment when he’s supposed to be justifying himself and speaking with conviction and authority.
It’s another blunder. It makes him appear contrived, the call look fake, and combined with his umnification of the language it doesn’t help his cause a bit. Quite the contrary actually. Just because the press wants it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
Watch who you call “Pally,” Buckarroo! Let’s stick to what I said, m’kay? Every vote in Florida has been through a machine at least twice, as is mandated by law. Any reasonable person would consider that as “counted.” If Gore wishes to debate accuracy of that count, then he should do so. What he said was a lie. Do you seriously think there are thousands of votes out there in a box, that have been hidden to deprive Gore of his victory? Do you think it’s maybe the least bit disengenuous?
You can’t make a milkshake without creating a little froth, and even a good bear needs a head. Are you trying to tell me you got something against beer and milkshakes? What kind of an American are you?
Seriously, what’s your objection here? Did you expect a fair and balanced OP when you clicked of a thread titled “Gore is a scumsucking inerterbrate?”
I thought the certification of the vote at the Supreme court mandated deadline for the results was a a broad hint that maybe Gore has lost this one.
I don’t recall claiming omniscience here. If you disagree with my statements, you could supply some facts of your own.
As opposed to what Gore is doing, yes.
Care to take me up on the ten bucks? You got about 40 minutes to decide.
So, you’re trying to tell us Bush is the “Great Communicator?” I think not. Well, you might be trying to tell us that, but he’s not. Any way, he’s nowhere near as coherent as Gore. What’s Bush’s excuse?
{Checking my copy of the constitution first.} Nope - the election hasn’t happened yet, buckaroo. The Electoral College has yet to meet and do their duty/damage.
