So I was reading People (for research purposes) as I’ve done regularly for the last few years when I got to the article on the gay marriages in San Fransisco. One of the men was named Gorgon. Or at least People claimed he was. The poor man may be Gordon, but after that typo, he’s always gonna be Gorgon, at least to me.

Surprisingly, despite the obvious associations, the name Gorgo was a common one for girls in ancient Greece and Rome. We know this from inscriptions, tombs, and other such residuum of everyday life. I don’t understand it, myself – it’s like being named “Ugly”, but maybe thy saw it as ironic, or as averting the eyes of punishing Fate or something. So San Francisco’s “Gorgon” is in good company. Or at least plenty of it.
