Basically, you pay the money for a special box and set up, and then you simply pay “only” $500 to see each first run film showing down the street in a theater filled with poor peons, while you and (up to) 25 friends can watch the film in the privacy of your own [del]mansion[/del] home.
OK…let’s sign up!
Line forms to the right - please have $35,000 in cash only.
No, this does not include popcorn or drinks.
Actually, that doesn’t sound entirely crazy expensive. Yeah, 35k is an awful lot of disposable income… but a lot of people buy, say, sports cars that they don’t commute with. And if you split that, $500 between 25 people is only $20 a head, which isn’t much more than ordinary tickets. And you get to eat or drink whatever you want, and not deal with people in the audience that you don’t want.
I could see a group of movie geeks splitting the cost of this system. There are already plenty of people that spend thousands on home theater gear.
