He’s lowering the priority and banning wind turbines from the states massive amount of coastline. The law will boost natural gas while nerfing regulations on the gas pipelines.
Ron DeSantis is a moronic asshole of incredible proportions. But this is just one more of many, many reasons why he is truly horrible.
As for DeSantis, he’s an aspiring little proto-fascist, but not a particularly accomplished one. If only all of the would-be Il Duce’s were as inept as he is.
This is just silly. One of the biggest drawbacks of offshore wind turbines is having to build them offshore. But southern Florida has the unique advantage of a window of opportunity where they can build vast fields of turbines onshore, and in just a few years they’ll be offshore. Serendipity!
We don’t have wind turbines because the only time Florida gets enough wind to make them worthwhile, it’s from a fucking hurricane. DeSantis just signed a law to prevent a thing that was never going to happen, so that he can crow about fighting woke environmentalists or whatever.
So in 30 years when the Everglades are beachfront property, I’ll be able to buy some prime real estate at bargain-bin prices, because, according to law, the ocean that has now extended right up to the edge of this formerly worthless property does not in fact exist.
The Everglades are at sea level. The whole bottom of thecstate dissappears at once. Beachfront Miami and the very center of the Everglades on the same day.
It is even worse than that; the water table in Florida is below sea level, segregated from the ocean by a substrate of limestone karst. This forms the Florida Aquifer System (FAS) which extends through the panhandle and all the way to southeastern Alabama, and up to southern South Carolina, including nearly half of Georgia. Rising sea levels will force ocean water into the FAS, making it unusable for consumption or household purposes without desalination. Combined with excessive withdrawals from FAS to support a burgeoning population desirous of manicured lawns and swimming pools, it virtually guarantees that the South Atlantic Coastal Plane and all of central and south Florida will not have access to sufficient quantities of fresh water beyond what can be collected from precipitation.
Desantis picks and chooses with a flick of his pen, which communities get funded under Resilient Florida. The states entire infrastructure for flood control is begging for improvements And he’s fighting a war on woke for political clout. What does he attribute to sea level rise?
Every time this asshole does something assholish, which he usually does, it just makes me glad I fled Florida. Climate change is the biggest threat the planet faces, but he doesn’t care.
It is a shame, since I spent the first 25 years of my life there, but it is just a matter of time before he starts rounding up people like me and putting us into camps.
